Week Twenty Preview

After nineteen weeks there are still nine players that can potentially win this contest, and only 26 points separates 6th place from 1st place. All games this last week were both critical and brutal as any loss eliminates that team from any future points.

Going into Week 20, who is left in play and what do they have to do:

NCAA Tourney (16 teams)
Midwest
Louisville (Jutdog) plays Arizona (Progress Media)
Michigan St (Babblemur) plays Kansas (Jaybird)
West
UCONN (HippieD) plays Purdue (Akaoni)
Memphis (Gunz) plays Missouri (Gunz)
East
Pittsburgh (Boaris) plays Xavier (Phunmunki)
Duke (The CEO) plays Villanova (The CEO)
South
North Carolina (Jaybird) plays Gonzaga (Phunmunki)
Oklahoma (Boaris) plays Syracuse (Babblemur)

NIT (9 teams left)
San Diego St (Babblemur) plays winner of St. Mary's (Progress) and Davidson (Progress)
Baylor (NotaTurtle) plays Auburn
Notre Dame (Gunz) plays winner of Creighton (Babs) & Kentucky (Boaris)
Florida (Akaoni) plays Penn St (Musashisan)

CBI (6 teams left)
Northeastern (Jaybird) plays UTEP (Turtle)
Richmond (HippieD) plays Charleston
Stanford (Boaris) plays Wichita St
Vermont (Phunmunki) plays Oregon St (Musashisan)

CIT (2 teams left)
Belmont (Phunmunki) plays Old Dominion (Gunz)
James Madison v. Liberty
Oakland v. Bradley
Idaho v. Pacific

Next NCAA Tourney rounds games are worth 8 points on top of the 1 point win and 2 points against other players (11 total). The sat-sun games will be worth 13 points plus the 1 point win and 2 points against other players (16 total). This weeks games are critical for everyone.

Don't forget:

- A team that makes the post-season NIT final 4 receives 2 points*
- A team that makes the post-season NIT championship receives 4 points*
- The team that wins the post-season NIT championship receives 7 points*

- * Each post-season win over another player will also include +2 points

Here is the VERY important:

1. Hippie D and UCONN take down Akaoni's Purdue (although I'd like to see Purdue go on in the tourney)

2. Phunmunki and Xavier take down Boaris's Pitt

3. Louisville and Jutdog don't lose again.

4. The only other thing that matters is that only 1 of Bab's teams (Cuse and MI St) advance.

Oh, and Gunz should take the NIT with NotreDame or Turtle with Baylor.

That's funny because I was thinking that
1. Louisville should lose to either Arizona or Mich St,
2. Final Four is UCONN (HippieD), Xavier (Phun), Gonzaga (Phun) or Syracuse, and Arizona (PM) or Mich ST.
3. San Diego State and Creighton play for the NIT Championship.

Well, Here's the Percentages:

1. Gunz advances: 100%

2. HippieD and UConn have a 73% chance of taking down Purdue (Aka)

3. Michigan St (babs) only has a 45% chance of beating Kansas (Jbird).

4. Syracuse (babs) has a 52% chance of beating Oklahoma (boaris)

5. Louisville (jutdog) has a 78% chance of taking down Arizona (PM)

6. Pitt (boaris) has a 68% chance of taking down Xavier and Phunmunki

7. CEO has a 100% chance of advancing

8. UNC has a 56% chance of taking down Gonzaga.

It looks like Babs, Phunmunki, Aka, and PM are on edge and possibly in trouble.

Missing disclaimer: The actual odds for the match ups differ substantially with the opinions listed above...

...that said, I agree, I am in trouble.

Much better, I like attribution.

Well, Creighton has fallen, preventing babs from a few extra pts. Unfortunately, they went to Boaris.

Go St Marys!!

Go Notre Dame!!

Go Penn St!!

Go Baylor!! (I just feel bad for Turtle..)

Boaris is definitely back in the running.

Jaybird is the scary one though - better hope Michigan St beats Kansas.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Baylor and Penn St move on - 2 pts each for making the NIT Final 4!

Plus, ironically the top two point earners (Jut and Aka) are both down to only 1 team (Louisville and Purdue). What a barn burner!

Way to go Turtle - your Baylor pick is turning heads now!

Florida has been my most dissapointing team by far...Boo!

Time for San Diego State to earn their money and flame into the NIT final four tonight.

Next year I think we need points for the CBI.

I think we should have mayber 8-10 suggestions for point changes, and vote in 2-4 of them for next year. We really don't need any significant or drastic overhauls, but slight improvements are always a welcomed change.

I'll assemble what's been suggested already into several points and post it, and then others can also add their thoughts. We'll vote by the end of the NCAA tourney.

We should also figure out who thinks they'll be interested again next year. Turtle should start researching a little earlier next year.

Florida - yes, they were a big let down - one of those "i'm glad i didn't pick them as they were high on my list - them and Notre dame".

Turtle and I have fantasy football which distracts us from NCAA basketball until well after the draft takes place. Last year I was in the finals so I was distracted. Maybe next year my fantasy football team will be worse which should improve my focus on the Babbleball...

Big day today in the lesser conferences:

NIT - two winners go to the little final four:
Notre Dame (HippieD) vs Kentucky (Boaris)
San Diego St (Babs) vs St. Mary's (PM)

CBI - two winners go the (even) little(r) final four:
UTEP (Turtle) vs Richmond (HippieD)
Stanford (Boaris) vs Oregon St (Musa)

CIT - Old Dominion (Gunz) is the last player team still standing in this one - good luck!

Well, it shows that we're not complete idiots. While we did select a huge number of teams, we do have all of the teams left in the NCAA, NIT, and CBI.

Ron said...

Well it just goes to show that San Diego State was a damn good pick after all. They should be in the sweet 16 instead of lame ass Arizona.

Anonymous said...

ahh, they're gonna get smacked next game. Good win, but at home with a sold out crowd. That's worth at least 5 points. Well, looks like they lost then...

Yes! to Boaris's Kentucky falling.

Determination day for Akaoni today. Free point day for Gunz and CEO.

akaoni said...

I can only hope that the distraction of the recruiting irregularities distract the UCONN team enough to let Purdue squeek out a win...

San Diego State is going all the way. So soon we seem to have forgotten that Notre Dame sucked this year.

akaoni said...

It's been fun, but it's ovah for me! Good luck all!

Did the judges save Michael? My tivo cut off the end of Idol.

Well I'm sad to see Akaoni go, and I actually wanted Purdue to pull it off, I am glad to say that no Iowa folks will be added to the all-exclusive Hall of Fame.

Oh, and Munki's Xavier almost pulled it off - that would have been GREAT! What's with Pitt - they seem wishy washy. Unlike Villanova - that was business!

What, you are admitting that I live in Wisconsin now?

Do or die time for Babs tonight - GO Syracuse! Go Michigan State!

Jut could be eliminated as well (Go Arizona!) along with Progress (Arizona) Phunmunki (Gonzaga) and Jaybird (North Carolina & Kansas).

Justin Mitchell said...

Phunmunki was gobbled up the past two days. Jaybird takes a huge leap adding 26 points.

Unfortunately, I was cheering for Michigan St, despite Idiolemur.

GO UCONN & HIPPIE D!!!!!!!

Go VILLANOVA & CEO.

and, for the future....

GO BAYLOR!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I talked with HippieD - his main goal these days is to not finish last. I think he's got it in him.
