Conference Champs
Mooseye came on strong winning two Major conferences (SEC and Big 12), and thanks to the expanda-draft two minors (BigSouth and SWAC) for 30 points. Jutdog was right behind him also with four conferences: ACC, Mountain West, MAC, and the Atlantic Sun for 29 points. Boaris was the only other player to win four conferences (WAC, CUSA, Big Sky, MEAC) and could make it five with the Ivy. He picked up 26 points for his efforts.Slake B took 3 conferences (Big10, A-10, Horizon) for 23 points, the CEO took 3 conferences (WCC, MAAC, and Patriot) for 19 points, and Some Guy in Illinois took 3 (Colonial, OVC, Southland) for 19 points. The rest of us had 2 conferences or less, with special notice going to Jaybird who won two majors (Big East and Pac 10) for 18 points.
Who's Dancing and Who Isn't
Belmont (Jutdog) is the only player team that has made it to the Dance so far. Other conference winners have choked in their tournaments leaving their futures in the hands of the Tourneygods, including Missouri St (Akaoni), Florida Atlantic (Babs), Fairfield (The CEO), Vermont (Gunz), Coastal Carolina (Mooseye), Cleveland State (Slake), and Murray State (SGII). Unlike George Mason (SGII), most of these teams will NOT get an at-large bid, despite some impressive seasons. The NIT will be a full boat.

Here's how everyone did this last week. Note that with all of the conference champ points added in points were quite inflated, but not also that those with the best W-L records were the recipients of those points...

This week is all about winning. The only games scheduled are tournament games, and if you lose, you don't play anymore games and can't get any more points for the week. Duh, right? Consider that almost all of the Major conference teams are player owned - that means possibly 2-4 games this week per team, almost all against other players, with big points for surviving undefeated, plus guarantees for the Big Dance. Here's the points that are important this week:
- A team that wins a major conference (6) tournament earns 7 points
- A team that wins a mid-major conference (9) tournament earns 5 points
- A team that wins a non-major conference (16) tournament earns 4 points
Wait! There's more!
- Each team that makes the NCAA tourney receives 3 points
So Six teams will run the Majors and bring in 10 points each, plus a likely 9 more from 3 wins over other players. The 9 Mid-Majors will have 9 teams bringing home 8 points each plus wins against others. Remaining Minors will bring home 7 points.
Then on Sunday, as the NCAA Selection is announced, all at-large teams selected for the Big Dancey Dance will have their +3 points added up as well.

St. Mary's - Gonzaga rubber match on NOW. Here comes Mickey! Cue CEO bitching I'm T-minus a little while.
You may notice that Gonzaga is attacking St. Mary's screen at the top of the key. This is exactly how Utah State managed to come back and win convincingly. If St. Mary's can't figure out how to beat this basic defense, they will lose.
You will notice that Old D knocked back Gunz and VCU, adding a shit-load of points for me.
The Aztecs are going to make the rest of BYU's starting lineup violate their honor code.
No complaining today, Wofford finally stepped up and won a big game, they looked tough doing it, and Gonzaga took care of business, next up,

Pretty slow day today.
First round of the Big East starts up, lets see if these losers can advance: Villanova (Akaoni), Seton Hall (Jut), Marquette (McG) vs. Providence (Musa), and UCONN (Mooseye).
Oakland (McG) plays Oral Roberts for the Summit Crown (and seven points).
North Texas (Mad Mader) plays Little Rock for the Sun Belt Crown (and seven points).
Princeton (Boaris) plays Penn - if they win, there will be an Ivy League Playoff game with Harvard (Gunz), but if they lose, Harvard goes dancing.
In the Big Sky Northern Colorado (Boaris) and Montana (Mad Mader) are playing other teams in the Semis, looking forward to a face off on Wednesday.
Akaoni could get some needed redemption in the Horizon as Butler faces UW Milwaukee for the Crown.
A-10 Chump Round games start today with Dayton (Akaoni) facing UMASS (Mad Mader), and Rhode Island (Jut) vs. St. Louis.
A handful of points today and tomorrow, and then by Thursday & Friday they should be pouring in.

To satisfy Mcgrumps need for a CEO complaint, I will offer the following, if Al Nolan doesn't go down with injury, Minnesota delivers the CEO 14 more pts than he has today, plus 3 for an NCAA bid, and probably a win, maybe two in the Big 10 tourney. Now I can only hope he somehow returns to the court for their matchup with Northwestern in the first round of the Big 10 tourney.
To be fair, the injury to Washington's guard probably cost SGII even more pts than what Nolan's injury cost me, Washington was running away with the Pac-10, and blew head to head game after head to head game.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck Gonzaga.

Well its pretty clear now that Jut is going to win this thing, so I think we should save Ron the time and trouble of updating the spreadsheet every morning and just give Jut all the prizes.

First off, congrats Jut on the CAA crown. What a furious comeback from VCU....I thought they had it. That's a really great conference this year....I expect some noise to be made in the NIT by Drexel, Hofstra and VCU.
Second, how is the IVY shaking out as far as scoring goes. Have I "clinched" the 6 points for (possibly-CO)-Champion? Or does Harvard need to win the if-necessary playoff game?
Nobody has been hurt more by the Point Guard Injury bug than me....Wright and Irving make both teams favorites for at least the Elite 8 (with Duke being a hands down favorite IF they had Irving to win the whole thing.)
Nolen and Thomas do get their teams into the dance if healthy, but what would those teams chances really be beyond a somewhat miraculous sweet 16 run, even with them....
Good points, many people have Irving as the number one pick in the NBA next year, him going down changed Duke's complexion, much like Minnesota. How good could Minnesota have been, good question, with Nolan they did beat: North Carolina (ACC Champs), West Virginia (top 5 in Big East), Purdue (although Iowa did that too). Duke no longer has anyone that can break good D's down, same with Minnesota, the difference now is that Hoffarber, a pure shooter can't create his own shot, so D's sag down on the bigs.
Let's look at it another way, North Carolina (Roy Williams fault) was a lot like Minnesota is now, huge talented front line, but no outside presence or threat. So teams sag, Hoffarber can't create and it's game over. Then, UNC introduces Kendall Marshall (again Roy Williams stinks) and suddenly no one can beat Carolina, because he changes the game, his penetration frees up the bigs and gets Barnes open looks.
Your injuries cost you future points, but regular season impact was minimal, maybe Duke wins the ACC, I'll give you that arguement. G-town, completely agree, they are a mess now without Wright
I'm not ready to crown Jut the champ, yes, he has three teams in the top 10, but let's look at them:
BYU may have one of the worst histories of any team in the tourney. Now yes, they have Jimmer, and he was enough to get one win last year, seeding and matchups will be the key as to whether this crew goes past the second round.
Texas was looking great, but did they peak? They certainly don't have the momentum one would hope heading into the tourney, but they are big, athletic, and dangerous. Don't write them off, that alone could carry them to the sweet 16, but they also could be last year's G-town, they are playing very inconsistent ball right now.
Now, my boys from Carolina, it's suddenly cool to bring out the baby blue again, and I'll tell you, Marshall completely changes that team. They suddenly look like a team that could challenge people for the title. They do have a glaring weakness, and it is outside shooting, but their strength inside and offensive rebouding prowess can offset that.
So yes, Jutdog is certinaly looking primed for a run, but the crown is far from his....
In regards to the Ivy League:
For Conference Championship Points the rule for other conferences is that if two teams are tied, you look at head to heads. If they split, BOTH teams get the points.
So based on that, since Harvard and Princeton split, Harvard is a lock for the points, Princeton needs to win today, and if they do, they also get the points.
The "playoff game" here is only relevant for determining whom the Ivy league sends dancing. It is the equivalent of a 2 team conference tournament. The winner will get the three points for beating another player's team, and three points for the auto bid, but no "conference tournament" points because the Ivy don't do dat.
Does this make sense? This is how I intend to score it unless someone makes a beefy argument otherwise.

Top 3 teams for each team and their potential, not whole rosters, many teams will send more than 3 teams, would you like Old D to replace BYU, Texas, or UNC as your teams with most potential?

Wednesday has some important games for the Leader Board - Jutdog has the day off, meaning Gunz (-10), Boaris (-16), Babblemur (-16), Mooseye (-22) and Mad Mader (-25) have a chance to gain some ground.
Biggest point game: Northern Colorado (Boaris) vs. Montana (Mad Mader) - winner will add 10 points to their score and climb the board.
Gunz however has three head to head games, including games against Mooseye (Georgetown vs. UCONN) and Boaris (Okla St vs. Nebraska) - a sweep of all three gives Gunz +9 and within 1 point of first place.
The third point opp is for Babs, who has Long Island in the NEC finale - 8 points if the Blackbirds can pull off the win over Robert Morris.

Ivy League makes sense to me...
Also, an already "soft" tourney is getting softer with all of these upsets in the conference tournaments. I expect a pretty "chalk" tournament based on all of the crappy 14-16 seeds and all of the crappy bubble teams that will fall in to the 11-12 seeds. The scariest 1st rd games may be the 4-13, which will pair teams like Louisville with the best low majors like Belmont.
Also, I think the BEAST gets 11, but goes about overall 8-11 in the tourney. I like ND, Pitt, Cuse to sweet 16, but not much farther. G'Town, Marquette, Nova, West Virginia, Cincy, and UConn are all vulnerable in the FIRST rd. That leaves St. John's and Louisville, which are teams that should win one game, but anymore? Tough to say.
With all that said, you can probably expect 15 first round upsets and two BEAST Final Four teams, based on my recent success of prognosticating the Madness.
Go G'Town, steal one from UConn!

I will predict that the over/under line for Big East victories is 15 1/2. Not sure, but I will probably wager on the over. I'm most enthusiastic about the Mountain West conference, which I presume will have 3 teams (BYU, SDSU and UNLV) and an o/u of 6 1/2 (I hope). I'm going to pound the under.
