The Expanda-Draft Cometh

The Expanda-Draft aspect of this contest was put in for several reasons - to allow players to pick up teams that surprised everyone and are marching towards an NCAA birth, to add the possibility of "tweaking" your squad to improve your chances - especially for those bottom dwellers, and to give players a chance to pick up mid and low major conference teams that look like they are going to stomp their way into the Big Dance.

As we think about our draft options, consider these point rules:

- A team that wins a major conference (6) regular season earns 9 points
- A team that wins a mid-major conference (9) regular season earns 7 points
- A team that wins a non-major conference regular season earns 6 points
- A team that wins a major conference (6) tournament earns 7 points
- A team that wins a mid-major conference (9) tournament earns 5 points
- A team that wins a non-major conference (16) tournament earns 4 points
- A team that completes the regular conference season undefeated earns +3 points.

This is where a non-major team can be worth drafting - they win a dozen games (12 points) plus win their conference (6 pts) and tournament (4 pts). Plus keep in mind...

- Each team that makes the NCAA tourney receives 3 points

So while picking up a major conference team like Cincy or Virginia has the advantage of possible points against Duke or Pittsburgh, they may not see any of the points above.

RULES OF THE INTERIM DRAFT & RELEASE

- The last week of January, each player must draft 2 additional teams.

- Draft order will utilize snake method, with pick 1 going to last place point earner

- A voluntary third round will take place following the 2-round draft, in which one team from the original roster can be dropped and a new team picked up. All existing points from original team will remain. Order will continue snake method from round 2.

- Points will begin to be earned by the new teams on February 2, and new points will no longer be added for the discarded team effective February 2.

The draft order is set following the last game on: Sunday, January 23, 2011. Due to the number of picks, we'll be looking to get going right away Monday Jan 24. Current Draft Order if it happened today:

1. Musashisan 113 (79-49)
2. Slake B 116 (72-48)
3. Some Guy in Illinois 125 (81-43)
4. Jutdog 131 (83-40)
5. Jaybird 142 (89-39)

More chumps to consider:
Binghamton (3-0 in AmEast) what? They suck.

A-Sun is hot: Belmont (6-0), East Tenn St (5-1), Jacksonville (4-1) all three with winning records overall as well.

Big Sky could be fun: Northern Colorado (4-0), Montana (3-1), Montana St (3-1) all with Weber State in the mix as well.

Coastal Carolina (5-0, 14-2) in the Big South - Jut probably didn't mention them because he's drooling over them.

Don't overlook Harvard (1-0, 11-3) in the Ivy. No tournament points, but head to heads with Princeton and Cornell.

Mid American is going to be wide open with Ohio sucking. Take your pick.

Bethune-Cookman 3-0 in the MEAC what?

Indiana State 5-1 in a loaded MVC Huh?

Austin Peay (6-0, 12-6) highly under-rated. Go Pee!

Oregon State (7-8) and California (8-7) are the only two Pac 10 teams available, make every game head to head!

I'll give someone a dollar if they take Holy Cross (2-0, 3-13).

Charleston is way fucking hot, must be on Jut's short list.

Jackson State is the only SWAC team with a non-losing record.

Sun Belt could heat up with a slacking Hilltopper team, check out Denver and Florida Atlantic.

My top three:
Jacksonville
Coastal Carolina
Montana

How can you put lists together and not include Centenary and UNC Greensboro, you sandbaggers!!!!

Anonymous said...

Centenary's men's and women's teams are the "Gents" and the "Ladies".

They shouldn't be on any list.

Anonymous said...

My list omitted small conf squads

Why wouldn't one want the Gents on one's team? The President calls for civility and you will have none of it?

Baby Jesus wept.

"civility" is code word for "shut the fuck up"

Rhode Island coming back. UNC takin em down. Common Old D. Get it together.

J Johnson came to play, but Babs, I kept looking for E Moore but couldn't find him......you weren't going to stay hot forever, I'm glad you waited until you made it a top 10 ranked game though, I needed that extra loving touch.

Did any of you sandbaggers look up Centenary and UNC Greensboro, they both bring something unique to the table other than being gents....

Yes, they suck. Greensboro has some potential though.

Good day for Mad Mader on Saturday, he's back in second place

In case anyone missed it, Baylor losing to Iowa State - would have been a nice addition to Musah's Iowa collection.

Horizon top ball continues, as the top 4 teams shift games against each other. Detroit host league co-leaders Valpo, while Wright St hosts the other leader in Butler. Good Sunday games!

Bradley with a great opportunity, at 0-6 in conf play they host 6-0 Missouri St this evening.

HUGE monday game with to-be #2 Syracuse visiting to-be #3 Pitt.

Another HUGE monday game is UCONN hosting Nova - edge Nova there.

And Battle of the disappointments, as 1-2 in league play K State heads to 1-2 in league play Missouri.

And Battle of the Unbeatens in the Southern, as Charleston heads to Chatt, with the winner taking sole posession of first place.

Finally, a re-cap of the What the Fucks:

1. Duquesne?
2. ACC leader? UNC bitches
3. Marquette blowing and 18 pt lead with 7 minutes left?
4. Ball St?
5. USC beats Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and Wash St, not to mention losing AT Kanasa by only 2, and then proceeds to loose back to back games against Oregon and Oregon State.

Yeah well their starting point guard got shot in the face before those Oregon games, where's your compassion? Penis.

First I'll respond to the callout on Missouri, losing by two in OT at College Station to fall to 1-2, I can maybe question the D and effort in the Colorado game. Big 12 looking to playout like the Big 10, those who can win on the road will have the upper edge.

Strange day today, Horizon all shook up, St John's regaining momentum with Notre Dame quickly fading, and West Virginia over Purdue.......

It shall get interesting, looking forward to how the expansion shakes things up, and the Pitt / Syracuse game,

4 Big East teams in top 10 and I don't have a team in the Big East :o(, at least Minnesota came up big when needed against UNC and Purdue, although UNC is doing what it can to tarnish the quality of that victory, Georgia Tech, WTF, they lost to mighty Kennesaw St earlier this year.

That Marquette game was brutal. I had already popped the cork and started eating the chips and salsa when they collapsed. They were aggressive all game, then started running the clock with SEVEN minutes left! Probably going to mirror my team in this league.
