Akaoni Blazes Week TEN

In another brutal week five top 10 teams fell, every player lost at least 4 games, top to bottom league parity tightened by five points as first place Boaris was held to +13 points while last place Musashisan picked up +18, only 67 points separate first from last.

Akaoni had the big week in points, scoring 27 off an 11-5 week, including Florida State knocking off #1 Duke and NC State, Villanova sweeping Louisville and Maryland, and Missouri State continuing their undefeated conference record in the Missouri Valley. His hot performance shot him up from 9th place to 5th place and just 27 back from first place.

Slake B brought in +24 points thanks to West Virginia's pop of Top 10 Purdue, as well as Ohio State and Xavier sweeping the week. Wright State won a big one against Butler, and Oregon beat USC before falling to UCLA. Slake slipped past Some Guy in Illinois on the leader board.

Some Guy in Illinois had the fewest points for the week, a measly +10 off an 8-8 record. He was 1-8 against other players, Illinois dropped two, NC State dropped two, Ole Miss dropped two, and SGII dropped back to 12th place.

The CEO and Jaybird turned in the best records for the week at 11-4. Gonzaga, Minnesota, Wofford and Santa Barbara all went undefeated for the week for The CEO. Pitt, Arizona, UTEP, Miss St and Morgan St. all went undefeated for Jaybird.

Gunz and Boaris were the only two players with losing records for the week. Gunz went 7-8 with 6 of his teams taking hits this week. Boaris needed a strong Saturday to make up for a 1-5 start for the week, finishing 6-7.

Week 11 looks to be loaded for points as Top 10's square off and conference play heats up.

Standings after Week 10
  • Current with all Jan 16 (Sunday) Games
  • 1. Gunz 188 (96-41)
  • 2. Babblemur 174 (97-39)

  • 4. McGrumps 166 (102-37)
  • 5. Akaoni 161 (101-38)
  • 6. Mooseye 161 (91-44)
  • 7. The CEO 160 (94-40)
  • 8. Boaris 158 (95-38)
  • 9. Jaybird 157 (96-41)
  • 10. Jutdog 142 (90-45)
  • 11. Slake B 135 (79-53)

We've got a pretty volatile leader board between 2nd place and 9th place. Last night just flipped Mooseye from 6th to 4th, CEO from 7th to 6th, and Jaybird from 9th to 7th.

Only 14 points separate Boaris in 9th from Babblemur in 2nd.

And best yet, only 14 points separate Gunz from the rest of the pack.

Jut and Gunz have a double header tonight, a rare opportunity to root for Jut's teams. Tennessee (Boaris) vs. Georgia (Babs) could shake up the leader board as well, on top of the SEC standings.

I think we have a pretty competitive season on our hands! I also dare say anyone can win at this point, even our slumbering giants in the cellar.

In spite of last week's good performance, I feel like I left some points on the board. Butler and Nova let those games get away from them.

That said, I fully expect this to be the high water mark for my teams for the rest of the season, so I should enjoy it while I can...

Illinois vs Michigan St (who can rise up from the early Big 10 season jitters, was Michigan St's comeback against Wisconsin enough of a momentum changer....?)

Maine vs Vermont for the conf lead and bragging rights

Colorado vs Nebraska, which team is for real this year and wants an NCAA bid, Colorado showing it early in the Big-12 season, Nebraska trying to regain pre-season cupcake form

And let's toss out Michigan vs Northwestern, a game Northwestern can not afford to lose in hopes of securing their first ever NCAA bid (note, does that bid come with an asterik next to it due to an expanded field...?)

Some big games tonight

Maine, Nebraska, Illinois, Alabama step to the table.....

Can anyone win on the road in a major conference, anyone, if you can, you will likely take that conf down, anyone...

Since all ratings have the Mountain West higher than the SEC and Pac10, we'll say that BYU's 15 pt win AT UNLV demonstrates a solid road win.

UNLV doesn't count, they lost at home to powerful UCSB, and in the process, lost the right to call road games at UNLV a legitimate win, that is unless you have USCB in the tourney.......

My dream NCAA first round matchup, BYU vs Marquette, Marquette wins by 20

Ugh! Missouri St. and Southern Miss. both lose on last second shots.

Indiana St leading the MVC, is Larry Bird back??????

McGrumps said...

At some point someone is going to have to admit that Penn State is good.

Two head-to-heads with Northwestern down the stretch might just tell the tale of the last in from the Big 10...

What? What? Texas A&M What?

Go Air Force!

It appears Georgia Tech was/is sick of losing.

CAL FULLERTON BABY!!!!!

Big Shake Ups in the MVC, as we now have a 2-way tie for first with Witchita St just short in 2nd.

Colorado State looking better and better, winning on the road where the Badgers couldn't.

And to everyone's obvious predictions: South Carolina leads the SEC EAST, while Alabama is on top of the SEC WEST.

Decisive Game tonight in the PAC10, with Zona heading to Washington.

And then babblemurball fans wait until a deadly Saturday, with at least 20 games of excitement, changes in conference leaders, and points for the taking.

I haven't looked yet but based on the comments here I think I got spanked last night.

Oh that wasn't bad. I was worried about Purdue and San Diego St. Big night last night for McGrumps and Jaybird. Not so good for Mooseye (0-4).

Gunz has a huge Sat building up for him, I'm most interested in the battle in the Colonial between Gunz VCU and Jutdog's Old Dominion. Could go a long way to determining the outcome of the Colonial.

For those of you closely watching the Southern Conf, huge game tonight, as Wofford matches up with unbeaten Chattanoga who just gave Charleston their first loss, could lead to a 3 way mess on top of the league, go Wofford go!!!

Babs, I think your posts / example above continue to support parity and when you have parity, home court advantage. Vandy could easily be undefeated overall, and in conf, they blew 16 and 17 pts leads respectfully on the road. Washington St can't get it done on the road, Kentucky (road), Big 10 (road), Big 12 (see Missouri, Kansas St, Texas A&M.....), the teams that figure out how to win o the road will distance themselves. As pointed out above, huge opportunity for Arizona with trips to Washington and Washington St in the next week.

If Boaris could, he would trade his shitty teams (all of them) for a case of cold Miller Lite. How about allowing trades next season?

Anonymous said...

Boaris, you can just bring over a 12ver of miller lite to Oshkosh and treat the hosts to an evening of beer and hoops.

But, in the meantime, here is your evening wake the fuck up notice:

Baylor: RPI comes in at an unimpressive #101, with an even less impressive 0-5 vs top 50 RPI teams. Keep it up, and the NIT will celebrate your presence, that is, if you're able to play post season.

I don't know what is worse, Miller Lite or Boaris' teams. Ha Ha!

akaoni said...

I was going to join the anti-Boaris/Miller Lite pile on, but since Boaris is currently beating me I will only say that Miller Lite is (like most domestic light beers) horse piss.

I would think a self-respecting 'Sconsoian would at least dring Point...

As long as the beer is cold, we will get the gold. Which 1984 USA basketball Olympian uttered this fantastic comment? Winner gets K-State and some Miller Lite.

Had to be either Rick Berry or Dr. J. (Wait, were pros allowed in the Olympics in 1984?)
