Best and Worst of 09/10 part 2 of 3

Round 6:

~ Best: Pittsburgh and Akaoni. Bringing in 53 pts in this round was 12 better than the closest squad, and was a bit of a surprise to many who saw Pitt lose a lot from the previous year. Pitt is looking to be a top 10 team in the preseason next year.

~ runner-up: San Diego State by CEO. Overall, this round was an underperformer, with the 2nd place team only bringing in 41 points from pick 59.

~ Worst: Oregon State by Phunmunki - expected by many to have a repeat season of the previous year, Oregon State brought back much of its core along with a solid recruiting class only to finish far worse than the previous year. While this team was eventually dropped, they only brought in 11 points, making them the lowestest performer of the regular draft. Pick 56.

~ runner-up: TIE: Boston College by Jutdog brining in only 27 points from pick #52 and Jacksonville by Babs with only 28 points from pick #51. Boston college returned 4 starters and 2 bench players from a 20+ win squad last year, but the loss of their leading scorer proved to be too much. This shows the difference between a program such as BC and the likes of Pitt and Syracuse, who both lose tons and yet are excellent squads the following year. BC kicked out their coach after that performance. Jacksonville was fine, but probably could have been picked in the last round.

Round 5:

~ Best: This was a great round, with 6 teams scoring over 45 points. But Akaoni's Syracuse brought in 34 points more than is closest competitor. The 94 total points from Cuse snagged them a Babblemur Top 5 pick.

~ runner-up: Gunz's Wisconsin was another excellent, finishing with 60 points from pick 46. The Badgers have continually shown that they need to be a top pick in our league, due to their tough out of conference scheduling and solid big 10 play. The Badgers knocked off two of the final four teams this year, including Duke.

~ Worst: Creighton, selected by SGII, bringing in only 18 points from the #44 pick. This was a bad one.

~ runner-up: Jaybird and Western Kentucky just did not meet any of the expectations coming into this year, and as a result, WK ended with only 25 pts from the 42 pick. This continues the trend of underperforming mid majors picked early, strengthening the rule that unless the team is a top 25 squad or in a conference with multiple teams selected, they aren't worthy of a top 4 round pick. WK finished 21-13, which isn't too bad, but even had they won 6 more games finishing 27-7, they would probably only have brought in an additional 7 - 10 points.

Round 4:

~ Best: Tie: Jutdog's Kansas State was a solid performer this year, bringing in 75 points from the #32 pick. This slot is shared though, by the somewhat suprisingly high score brought in by the CEO's Northern Iowa, with 73 points from pick 38. These two teams both receive Babblemur top 5 picks (they tie, meaning we'll have 6 in the top 5).

~ runner-up: Notaturtle's Gonzaga was a surprise to many, losing 4 of their top 6 players. However, as we've seen with many of the best systems in the league, their bench players were better than most other conference starters. Zaga brought in 59 pts from the 33 pick, and will only be better next year.

~ Worst: South Carolina was bad this year. This probably cost Akaoni the league, as a few of his other picks made the top 5 list. At pick 34, SC only snagged 29 points.

~ runner-up: Arizona State was called out early as a bad pick, and proved to be as bad as expected. Although appearing as a possible contender in the aweful Pac 10, Zona St didn't really accomplish anything this year, and brought in only 34 points from the 37th pick. SGII again makes the worst of the worst list.
