Jutdog Suffers Worst Performance in Three Year History of Babbleball

The Top News this week was the horrendous performance of Jutdog's teams, who managed to lose 12 of 18 games, earning a mere 6 points. While the Babbleball Archivist is still reviewing last year's performance by Musashisan to verify that Jutdog has set a record, for now we are reporting that it was the worst one week performance ever in history. The result was Jut plummeting from a solid 5th place at the beginning of the week to 9th place by the close of Sunday, just 22 points ahead of a resurgent Some Guy In Illinois, who went 12-7 for 20 points, including a big win over #2 Syracuse.

Phunmunki Tops All

The other surprise this week was a 30 point performance by the typically invisible Phunmunki, who went 14-4, led by a Villanova win over Jut's West Virginia, and a surprise Niagara Purple Eagles upset over Siena (Boaris). Phun's phantastic week moved her from 9th place to 8th place.

Rounding out the bottom 6, NotaTurtle went 11-8 for 19 points, falling from 6th to 7th, and The CEO hit 22 off a fine 12-6 week to move from 8th place to 6th place. Babblemur put up an unusually strong performance, going 15-4 and taking 27 points to pull into 5th place.

Akaoni Back on Track

Akaoni stretched his lead out nine more points this week, hitting 29 points off 13 wins. The 2nd through 4th positions flipped and flopped all week, with Jaybird ending up on top by Sunday off 25 points from 15 wins. Gunz finished 2 points behind him off 20 points from 10 wins, and Boaris ended 2 points behind Gunz off 21 points from 13 wins. All three remain poised to move on Akaoni at the first sign of weakness.

Standings after Week 14
  • 1. Akaoni - 287 (155-51)
  • 2. Jaybird - 249 (148-58)
  • 2. Gunz - 247 (145-62)
  • 4. Boaris - 245 (155-51)

  • 8. Phunmunki - 214 (131-71)

Akaoni Hangs On, Boaris & Phunmunki Rising

Akaoni managed to hang on to the number one spot for the fourth straight week off of a 11-2 record and 18 points for the week. Illinois and Baylor had big wins, while Texas and Syracuse maintained their undefeated records. Week 5 will pit Illinois vs. Vanderbilt, Syracuse vs. Florida, and Washington vs. Georgetown for some tough battles.

Meanwhile Boaris pulled from fourth place to second off 21 points, only Siena and BYU losing games. With five head to head matchups in week 5 (including Florida vs. Akaoni's Syracuse) Boaris could be making a play for the #1 spot.

Phunmunki made the biggest jump from 8th place to 5th place off 13 wins for 19 points, her only two losses to Boston College and Purdue. Week 5 will be a challenge though as Xavier faces Kansas St and Cincinnati, Alabama takes on Purdue and the Purple Eagles face red hot Illinois St.

Gunz pulled down the fewest points of the week (11) dropping from 2nd place to 3rd, while Babblemur had the crappiest record as his merry band of losers went 9-6 (Portland 0-2, Jacksonville 0-2, California lost to New Mexico, Maryland lost to Villanova). Babs fell from 5th to 7th but remains two points up on rival Jutdog.

Some Guy in Illinois (+17 pts) and The CEO (+14 pts) both turned it up but still hold down the Cellar in the #9 and #10 spots.

Week 5 Games of the Week:
W: Kentucky (Jaybird) vs. UCONN (Turtle)
W: Kansas (Boaris) vs. Radford (Jut)
TH: Syracuse (Akaoni) vs. Florida (Boaris) TWO OF THE HOTTEST TEAMS RIGHT NOW

Week 14 Recap: Gunz & Phun

Week Fourteen was brutal and we saw some shake ups in conference standings.

Recap

Gunz and Phunmunki scored the most points, 29 for Gunz and 30 for Phunmunki. Phunmunki did it thanks to Wisconsin starting to beat teams again (Iowa and Ohio State), combined with some important wins (Gonzaga over St. Mary's, Vermont over Boston, Maryland over Virginia Tech and Belmont over E. Tenn St.). Phunmunki is now a mere 4 points behind Progress Media, but still in 9th place.

Gunz was the only player who changed the standings, his 29 points boosted him past The CEO and Jaybird and back into 5th place, while The CEO passed Jaybird to stay in 6th, leaving Jaybird in 7th. Gunz did this with two Top 10 Knockoffs: Notre Dame finally pulling their heads out of their asses and beating Louisville, and Boston College knocking down Duke. Other important wins helped Gunz as well, including Missouri beating both Kansas and Nebraska, Old Dominion taking down VCU, and Miami (OH) over Western Michigan.

The rest of the scoreboard remained the same. Boaris, Babblemur, Akaoni, Jutdog, The CEO and Progress all picked up between 21 & 24 points, HippieD & Jaybird fell behind with 17 each, and Musa & Turtle brought up the rear with 14 a piece.

Team of the Week

North Carolina deserves it, beating #6 Duke and holding off a pesky Miami team to take a two game lead in the ACC.

Conference Standings

As just noted, North Carolina (Jaybird) has opened up a two game lead in the ACC, probably can't be stopped now. Oklahoma (Boaris) is stomping undefeated through the Big 12, and Michigan St. (Babblemur) is holding onto a 1 game lead in the Big 10.

UCONN (HippieD) has a 1 1/2 game lead in the Big East at 12-1 but hanging in there at 10-2 is Pitt (Boaris), Marquette (Jaybird) and Louisville (Jutdog). Washington (Akaoni) now has a one game lead in the Pac 10 but that is far from over. LSU (The CEO) holds a two game lead in the messy SEC.

In the mid-majors, Dayton (Akaoni) and Xavier (Phun) are tied for the A-10; VCU (CEO) and Northeastern (Jaybird) are tied for the Colonial; Memphis (Gunz) is blowing them out in C-USA; Butler (Boaris) took a hit and is now only 2 games up in the Horizon, can Green Bay (Jut) catch up?

Buffalo (Jaybird) lost one in the MAC but has a game up on Miami Ohio (Gunz); UNI (CEO) lost another one in the MVC and holds a thin 1 game lead over Creighton (Babblemur); In the Mountain West Utah (Jutdog) has a one game lead over 3 others; Gonzaga (Phunmunki) is undefeated and 3 games up in the West Coast; Utah St (Progress) 3 games up and rising in the WAC;
