Four players have teams alive in the Final Four: Jutdog (West Virginia) with 483 points, Babblemur (Butler) with 436 points, Gunz (Duke) also with 436 points, and The CEO (Michigan State) with 409 points. Winning the national championship would net 42 points between the semi-final game and the championship, not enough to surpass Jut's 47 point lead over Babs and Gunz.Akaoni at 469 and Boaris at 448 have both been eliminated from further post season play.
Jutdog's success this year can be attributed to a number of factors. First his teams performed very well against other players, his 152 points in this category was second only to Akaoni's 162. Secondly his teams powered up in post season play - 7 teams made the NCAA Tournament, 4 reaching the Sweet 16, 3 the Elite 8, and one in the Final Four, for 92 points so far, 34 more than the next closest. And credit must be given to fine basketball by West Virginia (112 pts), Tennessee and Kansas State (75 pts each), Cornell (50 pts) as well as Utah State (48 pts) and Minnesota (47 pts).
Jutdog's victory this year will add to his braggery as it is his first championship that will not be accompanied by an asterisk.
Second Place is still up in the air. Akaoni stands in second place now with 469, and can hang on as long as either Michigan State or West Virginia win the National Championship. Babblemur and Gunz could finish in second place with a National Championship for Butler or Duke respectively.

I should have also added that Jut's success can also be attributed to huge upsets in the Tourney, namely
Syracuse (Akaoni) falling to Butler, and
Kansas (Boaris) falling to Northern Iowa
If either Syracuse or Kansas would have advanced to the Elite 8 it would have been a different situation here.
Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!. If West V goes down, this would also be the first year that we have a victor without the NCAA champion.

Well, let's look at some facts:
Northern Iowa returned it's top 9 players from a team that had Purdue beat until the last minute of the 2009 NCAA first round, they were legitimately good, and create major matchup problems and a "strange" tempo to games. Only UNLV was able to force UNI out of it's regular slow controlled approach. They were first or second in the nation in defense points allowed for a reason.
Butler, while we all call it an upset has three legitimate players who could play anywhere in the nation, they are a very good team from an average conference, their core is as good as anyones, and as much as Syracuse was in control of the game against Gonzaga, Butler dictated the way the game with Syracuse was going to be played, and took key people out of their tempo.
Yes, on paper, UNI and Butler may look like upsets, but I disagree with calling them huge, the UNI moreso than the Butler....

Congrats to Jut! I would tell him not to let it go to his head, but I think it's too late for that. ;)
Next year lets conspire to mess with his draft picks. It seems difficult, yes, but some trickery could be had.
Going back to rule changes, I think we should hold off on any decisions until we approach next season. There is a chance that the Tournament will get expanded to 96 teams, which may or may not eliminate the NIT, so there is a lot up in the air.

Great game, and I have to give Butler a ton of credit, once again they got a team to play their style of ball, and kept Michigan State at bay, they could have called a foul on Green's shot, but I have to agree with the Ref's decision to let them play through and Haywood did do a nice job of trying to avoid contact.

This was a great ending, with Babs and Gunz tied and the winner snagging #2.
This is also the first year that the NCAA champ didn't belong to the league champ, which is a good thing.
I'm sure we'll have some extensive discussions in the coming months if they expand the league, as that would mean an overhaul of our post season point system.
In the meantime, the thing to continue to mull over is the move from our current 2 conference tier system to a more accurately represented 3 tier system.
