it is always interesting to talk about midmajors who are borderline should they not win their conf tourney. I saw the following and thought it interesting:

Team A: 25-5 (12-2) RPI-35, SOS-126, lost to RPI's 176 and 205, won at RPI's 46 and 73, home vs RPI 18
Team B: 25-6 (14-2) RPI-31, SOS-102, lost to RPI's 123 and 154, won at RPI's 63 and 78, home vs, RPI's 23, 43, 63, 67, 78, and 79

Not that different right?

Team A: #14 Gonzaga
Team B: Utah State

This is good stuff too that I found - fitting for Babs to take this conference:

The Pac-10 is probably the worst BCS conference since the NCAA Tournament has expanded to 65 teams, and I don't even think there's much doubt about that. If the season ended now there's a decent chance that they'd only have one Tournament team (California), which is something that no other BCS conference has experienced in the modern era.

Tournament Finals on TODAY (Monday):
WCC: Gonzaga (Turtle) vs. St. Marys (Boaris)
CAA: Old Dominion (Gunz) vs. William & Mary (Babs)
MAAC: Siena (Boaris) vs. Fairfield

Western Kentucky (Jaybird) and Oakland (CEO) are also scrapping tonight in the semis of their respective conference tourneys.

Best Expanda-Draft picks:
*****Murray St. (Jaybird) - 10-1, won conference, won tourney, NCAA bound, for 26 points.
****UTEP (NotaTurtle) - went 9-0, four wins over other players, won the C-USA regular season. 23 points.
***New Mexico (Phunmunki) - went 8-0, 3 wins over other players, won the WAC. 20 points.
**Temple (SGII) - went 8-1, 2 wins over other players, won the A-10, 18 points.

Worst Expanda-Draft picks:
@@@@@ Virginia (Gunz) - went 1-9 and gave other players a stunning 18 points in the process. Earned a total of 1 point.
@@@@ Charlotte (CEO) - went 3-6 for 3 points total, gave 8 points to other players.
@@@ Washington St (Phun) - went 2-7 for 4 points. Gave 8 points to other players.
@@ Miami (NotaTurtle) - went 2-7 for 4 points, gave out 12 points to other players.

NOTE: as the beneficiary of many of those points from bad picks, I want to thank them all.

Charlotte really fell apart, I liked them as 5 of their final 7 were at home, that really didn't matter, most of the games were not close at all. Only winning the A-10 conf tourney can salvage this horrible pick by the CEO (someone will get fired over that pickup).

I do have to disagree with the best teams on one front, New Mexico is slotted by many as a number 2 seed in the NCAA's, what a steal for Phunmunki to get them in the expanda draft, but as a 2, they should almost slide into the sweet 16, right? I have to say they were the best pick only because of their potential. Let's be honest Murray St will likely get bounced first round (sorry Jay, you and them have some history)

Also, can I get a plug in here for Northern Iowa's 60 pts so far this year, my best scoring team, and a great year for a mid major, now I only hope they get a seed that will let them win a game or two in the NCAA's, they almost beat Purdue last year, before falling in the final min's

Re: Gonzaga v. Utah State. Perfect example of how stats lie. Out of 10 games, Gonzaga would beat Utah State 9 times, and would usually crush them.

Ron said...

Lets hope we get to see that in the big dance!

Anonymous said...

Well......Had Cincinnati been able to make freethrows, they would have beaten Gonzaga by at least 10, had them down 15 in the second half, and we all know how good Cincy is.....

I'm not sold on Gonzaga being as good as they have been in past years

And they just lost to St. Mary's.

Points distributed tonight for St. Mary's (won the WCC), Old Dominion (won the CAA) and Siena (won the whatever). Boaris wracked up points tonight!

Anonymous said...

Sure, impressive win for St. Mary's. Prior to this game, only Duke had secured a game against Gonzaga entering the final minute. All I know is I wouldn't want to be in Gonzaga's bracket in the tournament. St. Mary's? Not so scared.

Holy Championship week Batman! Boaris has chopped my 40 point lead down below 20. With Kansas heading up his squad he's easily within striking distance.

Ron said...

Yup!

Well he got 11 points for the St. Mary's win (including the 4 points for the auto-bid to the NCAA Tourney) and 9 for Siena.

Points are going to be flying fast and furious now.

Shake it up!

UCONN got wupped by St. Johns in the Big East tourney! Ouch! They looked like a pretty good team, too.

akaoni said...

UConn's loss is just about everyone in the Big East Tournament's gain. They've got top flight talent but performed very inconsistently this year, and seemed to lose heart when Calhoun was out and never really got it back. Still, with a little momentum they could have been a scary team in the Big East tourney.

Charlotte completed their collapse losing in the first round of the A-10 tourney, they have solidified their place in history as one of the worst expansion draft teams taken EVER!!!!!

Cincy barely held on, but moves on to face Louisville today, pulling for a miracle run, they would have to win the Big East tourney to get in.

Need Oklahoma to start their miracle run today and put Oklahoma St back on the bubble

Props to Oakland!!!!

Big Day today - chance to snag 19 points. Biggest challenge: Marquette avenging two 2 point losses to Villanova

Marquette got it done, now I need to knock of West Virginia to keep pace with staying ahead of the "dirty dog", board Cincy board, as we all know you can't shoot (looking to avenge that 6 pt loss)

Unbelievable. I've lost every game today and to make matters worse, Onuaku goes down with an injury in a game that Syracuse made clear they wern't taking all that seroiusly. Crap!

Sick, sick, really, you're going to turn it over with 3 seconds, but even worse, you're not going to go to OT, you're going to up a 3 in the last 3 seconds.......AWESOME

An all time low has been reached by the CEO, as Michigan State shoots 51% from the freethrow line and loses to Minnesota, which is equally sick, as this not only give Jut more points, two nights in a row, but also keeps me from adding more!!!!!!!

And I was having such a good night sending former Iowa boy and his 8th ranked expanda draft superstars packing out West,
