Akaoni got a good performance from Washington, which beat both Morgan St. and Wash St., as well as Dayton over George Mason, Drake over Southern Ill, and Wright St. over Cleveland St. in some Hot Horizon Action. Going 13-2 for the week, Akaoni further pulled ahead of the pack and solidly into third place, closing in on Boaris (17 pts) and Babblemur (15 pts).
Gunz had a huge boost from the Boston College upset of #1 North Carolina, netting 5 pts, but lets not forget Boston College also took down Sacred Heart and San Fancisco earlier in the week, making Boston College the Team of the Week. But wait! There's more! Gunz also had Arkansas knock off #4 Oklahoma on Tuesday! Gunz is the Official Giant Killer, logging his third and fourth defeats of Top 10 Teams, twice as much as any other player. (Minnesota beat #9 Louisville in Week 7, and Notre Dame beat #6 Texas in Maui...)
Jutdog took 22 points mostly off of 6 wins against other players (out of 8), including Cornell over Boston U., San Diego over Miss St., Green Bay over W. Mich, Ohio St. over Iowa, Wake over BYU, and Louisville over Kentucky. He took advantage of other players chumps. He continues to move up in the charts, moving into a tie with Musashisan.
The Standings can be broken into:
- the Top Dogs (Babblemur, Boaris, and Akaoni) who are within 10 points of each other but 12 points ahead of any others;
- the Pack (Gunz, ProgressMedia, Musashisan, Jutdog, The CEO), who are all within 10 points of fourth place;
- the Suckers (HippieD, Jaybird, Phunmunki, NotaTurtle), who are struggling to keep up with the pack.

Gunz knocks off another Top 10 team with Notre Dame over Georgetown, although I wouldn't call it an upset. Gunz is shooting up the charts, and has Arkansas playing #7 Texas tonight.
I got West Virginia at home against #5 UCONN - I'm not feeling real confident about this one. Michigan State is hosting Jut's Ohio State - I think OSU could win this one.

Gunz might as well drop his first three picks and rely on the remainder of his squad, as they're producing all the pts anyway.
HippieD is on his way out, except for whatever pts UCONN and UNLV can dig up. USC isn't living up the the hype - glad I took Wake Forest over them and Miami.
ProgressMedia should start getting acquinted and comfortable with the bottom half of the league, because his teams just aren't going to produce. No Big East squad either! Ill St can't carry you anymore buddy - wins over Central Conn St Community College will only get you so far.
The CEO should probably purchase an axe to cut off his bastard children there at the end. I thought holding out for conference play meant you were going to win in conference. Can Duke do it alone for you? Maybe with a little help from Nova? Siena's good for another 20. I don't think you got it buddy.
Babs was high on Phunmunkster early on. If you would have told me that her shining knight was Xavier, I would've told Babs he's crazy. Well... Babs is fuckin crazy. Phun should gain some points with in-conf wins of minor confs with few vs games. BYU and Wisconsin could produce some, but unless Zaga turns it around to be that top 5 team again, the monkey is dead.
Turtleater has the 2nd fewest pts coming from vs matches - 2nd only to phunmuniky. With his big lineup including teams in the MAC, Big West, Horizon, and CUSA, and UMiss losing from here on out, i'm not sure if things will be changing much. His top three do combine for a 33-7 record, and will potentially all become serious contenders within the next two months. I suspect he'll rise. I just can't see a top 3 finish.

Wow I think there were more losses yesterday than wins!
I think Jut leads the league in the most teams that do NOT have a winning record (50% or worse): Temple, SFA, San Diego and Cornell have all lost as many as they have won.
Morgan State over Maryland? ? ? ? That should be worth so much more than one point.
The Gonzaga win was huge for them. That was really the battle between the two worst number one picks (other than Memphis) of all the players.

I think Boston College (Boaris) should have to give back their five points for beating Carolina, I don't even think that should be debated after losing to Harvard.

Washington's win over Stanford kept me in first place (thanks, akaoni!) and moved Akaoni closer to passing Boaris for second place. Gunz keeps climbing with the likes of teams like Minnesota, but seriously does beating Iowa really count?
CEO passes the struggling Musashisan, whose teams went 0-4 last night.
I'm working through the spreadsheet and updating every schedule out through March for all players so we can get a good picture of what's in store for us. I got three more players schedules to finish.

Also, expect a precipitious decline from here on out. I can't keep relying on Wright St. and Washington forever. It's all downhill from here.

Not so fast, Rhino Rocket, it's all about matchups. I finished all the schedules and I've been crunching numbers and stuff and I'm preparing a series of reports to post soon.
Consider for example that you, Akaoni, have 66 games between now and March 8 against other players, only two others (Boaris and Musa) have more head to head match ups left. But can you win them? 10 of them are against Boaris, 9 against me, and 9 against Musa.
The fearsome Jaybird has 47 head to head matchups left, while Phunmunki is the least confrontational with a mere 31 games left against other players...
Ole Jaba the Jut has 44.
But its all about the matchups.
Careful with the analytics, Jutdog take a look at CEO schedule January 27, heads up matchup with Northeastern not hightlighted as a 3 pt matchup. This is a big showdown in the colonial, with suprising George Mason 5-0, Northeastern 5-0, and VCU 4-1 (looking forward to some of those heads up matchups). Both Northeastern and VCU returned most of their teams from last year.
I'll look and see if I can spot any other misses...

Stanford is choking in the Pac 10, lost to both Wash and Wash St. this week. California is 4-0 in the Pac 10, beating Arizona and ASU at home, Wash & Wash St on the road. Is California the best team not taken? Next week they play Stanford.
Saturday was a huge day of games for everyone but the leader board didn't change at all.

One thought for next year, I suggest -1 pts for every loss a ranked team has against a non ranked team.
Just a thought of a way to reward those underdogs who pull through big wins....
