Early Season Idiot Awards

Congrats to the following idiots - folks who picked like stupid fools:

1. Phunmunki and her second round selection of Michigan. They suck. 4-4 against D-1 foes, including a 16 point romping inflicted by Utah, one might reconsider taking Iowa over Michigan this year.

2. Babblemur and his first round pick of California. At 6-3, California was one of the first preseason top 25 squads to completely fall out of the rankings. While their losses aren't that bad (Ohio St, Syracuse, New Mexico), they aren't representative of a first round selection. After all, he could have had Syracuse, Tennessee, Florida, Georgetown, and more.

3. We all know that Rick Pitino can piss the hell out of everyone who watches his teams - they usually have the most pronounced growing pains of any D-1 team followed by national contention. This year seems to be no different, with Louisville having dropped from the rankings and pulling the worst record in the Big East at 5-3. Losses include UNLV, Western Carolina, and Charlotte. They have 5 non-majors coming up (including challenging games against W. Kentucky and Radford) and then go to Kentucky for a definitive game. At this point though, Some Guy in Illinois is a dumbass for takinng UL one ahead of Clemson and two ahead of Georgetown.

4. Gunze and his selection of Mississippi St at #15. That idiot picked a team that dropped games to powerhouses such as Rider and Richmond. At 7-2 with no real good wins, Miss St has proven worthy of a round 4 pick at best.

5. UCLA sucks. Gunz is an idiot. Sure sure, injuries, draft departures, the works. They have a lot to do to make up for a 2-6 start.

6. Some Guy In Illionis comes in again with his 4th round pick of Creighton. They are 3-5, and no one in the MVC has a worse record. Yes, they schedule tough games, but.. Missouri St is 9-0, Witchita St is 9-1, Illinois St is 9-1 - all teams in this conf that he could have taken.. in the last round and instead of Creighton.

7. Jacksonville should not have been selected, except possibly as a last round feel good team. Babs, however, is an idiot, and picked them with his 5th round selection. If it wasn't for such stupidity, Babs might be in first. Think, Jacksonville is 0-5 and worth 0 points. Mississippi, taken several picks later, is at 10 pts and a top 25 team. The list could go on forever.

8. Boston College is proving to be a terrible pick at #53, and as a result, Jutdog (me) receives an idiot award. Those bastards have lost to too many non-players, and its only going to get rougher in the ACC. At 6-4, they aren't looking good at all.

9. TIE: Nevada (Jaybird at 4-4) - pick 59
TIE: Oregon State ( Phunmunki at 4-4) pick 56

Quote-Worthy;

"You have to wonder what Iowa fans are thinking as they see how much success Steve Alford has had in just his third year at New Mexico since being run out of town in Iowa City. New Mexico is now 10-0 with a win over California to go with this one. They are in the Top 30 in the Sagarin, Pomeroy and RPI rankings. The top of the Mountain West is going to be very close between New Mexico, BYU, UNLV and San Diego State, but the Lobos might just be the favorites."

OK, Creighton as the 6th worst pick is being nice. At least I'm getting a pass on AZ St. now. --SGII

And by the way, maybe I would have picked Clemson instead of Louisville, but I already had my ACC team. Just wait til the big dance for Coach Pitin-ho to get it together.

Either an eighth round pick doesn't qualify as a dumbass pick, or Jut is trying to work me for a solid Christmas present, but the CEO is happy to not be on the dumbass list, can't say the same about last year when I think it was Feb before Midd Tenn State broke the 5 pt barrier for me.....

Well, dinner was ready, and hot, and any further looking into the draft would have meant an extension on my already 5 minutes late. As a result, I think I only got through round 6. Its a shit fly after that anyway.

A double OT loss to Xavier hurt!!! I was having such a solid week, and the could have moved me up to 5th, ahead of the Jutdog!! I think I only did well last week as Arkansas and Oklahoma's games were limited. No comment Jut on Oakland destroying GB?

I'm just giving you shit about Oakland - they should have 3 first team all conferencers, so I don't expect that to be a bad pick. Like Radford, they're getting knocked around a bit pre conf, but will do very well come conf time. And for GB, it is the same syndrome that plagued the Badgers. Beat a big team and then try and get it together for the small guy. Badgers beat Duke and lose to GB. GB beats Badgers and loses to Oakland. Throw in some home court advantages such as at Madison and GB, and you'll have some wierd twists to a season.

News to me - let's hope that losing your best player accounts for the slow start:

Boston College, fresh off a home loss to Harvard, finally got Rakim Sanders back after a high ankle sprain. Sanders had only played four minutes this season -- in a loss to Saint Joseph's in the opening of the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas (he was suspended for the first two games of the season for a violation of team rules). Sanders played 34 minutes on Sunday night and was 5 of 14 for 14 points as the Eagles looked lost in a defeat to upstart Rhode Island, 80-69.
