All Struggle To Keep Up With Akaoni's Aggressive Pace

Week Seven sucked like others as Akaoni, playing a wee 8 games, managed to sweep up 15 points thanks to the Texas win over Michigan St along with two other PVP wins. Illinois' loss to Missouri was his only weakness.

Jaybird went 10-1 for 14 points to hold onto second place, 3rd place Boaris went 9-4 for 13 points, 4th place Gunz 10-1 for 10 points, and Jut went 10-2 for 14 points to hang onto 5th.

Some Guy in Illinois shot out of the basement off the Missouri win over Illinois and 8 other wins to take 13 points and 6th place. The rest of us just pissed the week away.

Standings after Week Seven:
# 1. AKaoni - 126 (76-13)
# 2. Jaybird - 113 (72-18)
# 3. Boaris - 108 (72-18)
# 4. Gunz - 102 (72-21)
# 5. Jutdog - 96 (67-21)
# 6. Some Guy in Illinois - 92 (68-27)
# 7. NotaTurtle - 88 (62-24)
# 8. Phunmunki - 88 (61-28)
# 9. Babblemur - 86 (56-30)
# 10. The CEO - 85 (65-28)

What will Week Eight have in store for us? Who knows, Jut hasn't updated the schedule yet. I guess we'll see!

So I just noticed that I have 4 teams in the top 25 of the coaches poll and 4 in the top 27 of the AP, and that doesn't include Memphis. Something's wrong with our scoring system.

I also want to point out that my small conference team, Long Beach State, has played Notre Dame, West Virginia, Clemson, UCLA, Texas, Kentucky, and plays Duke tomorrow night. Too bad they only managed a win against UCLA, but they are primed for their conference play.

As someone keeps pointing out, the pre-conference season has vastly different results than the conference portion of the season. If your teams are 'all that', you should likely rise when it comes to conference play.

Purdue and UCONN are going to be playing (and beating) other player's teams every other game in the Big 10 and Big East. Georgia Tech and Penn State will have a tougher row to hoe, but still - racking up points. Long Beach St has played VERY well, and I think Gonzaga and Memphis have both exceeded expectations.

But dude - look at the top three players' win-loss records:
76-13
72-18
72-18

Its hard to compete with that!

Face it Turtle:

My Team >>>>>>>> Your Team.

You will however have the advantage of seeing Purdue beat up on Illinois in conference play. So there's that...

Last year, mid December, Boaris was beating last place (me) apprx 83 to 50. Entering the last week of Dec 08, Boaris was beating perennial bottom dweller Notaturtle 118 to 72.

Of course we all know Boaris didn't win the big event, and was denied the coveted hall of fame award. As it is, a new term or concept came out of it - the Boaris Effect.

And, as we will see with the slimy Akaoni, his highly impressive start is about to start its decline. Note that it seems likely that the unanticipated success of Wesley and Syracuse will carry Aka all the way into March as a top 4 finisher.

Consider: Its a given that Texas, Cuse, Washington are a strong trio - maybe the best in the league.

However, does anyone anticipate Pitt to dominate the Big East as they have the unheardofs? How about South Carolina or Illinois - both good teams that seem to be underachieving this year. Capping off the squad is Virginia Tech and Baylor - both teams with great records but both teams that enter highly challenging conferences with few if any easy wins.

Wed we'll release the early formidable top 3 analysis to see who has the top trio heading into the meat of the season.

Here's an interesting statistic:

Worst Trio - Which player has the three teams that combined has the lowest score?

1. Babblemur 15 pts (Woo Hoo!): Jacksonville (1), Maryland (7), California (7)

2. 3 others tied with 22 pts. (The CEO, Jutdog, NotaTurtle)

Related, the player whose worst three teams are better than everyone else's worst three teams is Akaoni with 35 pts (Pitt 11, Virginia Tech 12, Baylor 12).

The schedule is now updated thru the end of January.

Notable date: Jan 16 - on which 70 of the 80 teams are playing ball, 40 of them against each other, and all 10 of Akaoni's teams are playing other players (which means that if he were really lucky he could bring home over 30 points on that one day...)

But this week - Friday's West Virginia - Purdue game is the game to watch.

By the way, I don't have a single ranked team in the AP. None. The closest I get is Butler coming in at 37th (although they are ranked #23 in the ESPN poll which is clearly wiser...)

Jacksonville WON! Jacksonville WON!

With 2 points under the Dolphin's belt, they sit just one point shy of Jut's Radford Douchebags!

Seton Hall pushed Syracuse tonight and took West Virginia to overtime over the weekend, they look like a team that could give folks some trouble as the season progresses.

Jeremy Hazell looks like the catalyst driving the Pirates but you wonder if they can be consistent with a player like him: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/315370-jeremy-hazell-leader-of-the-seton-hall-pirates-is-a-big-east-talent

Babs is back in the basement.

Some great games today:
Akaoni's South Carolina is 8-3, facing off with Jutdog's Boston College at 8-4. Big game for both these teams heading into conference play.

Akaoni's Baylor (9-1) faces The CEO's Arkansas (7-5) in another pre-conference face off. Given that Baylor's only loss this year was to another SEC team (Alabama) this one should be telling for both teams and their potential conference play.

In conference play, 10-1 Northwestern (Jaybird) faces 8-4 Illinois (Akaoni), after which we will know if either team is for real.

Finally in the Big East 9-2 UCONN (Turtle) goes to 8-3 Cincinnati (The CEO) after which we will know if either of them are for real.

I think that the realtiy of teams is overrated. I prefer fantasy.

Well in my fantasy basketball the players are all cute cuddly animals and the ball is sparkly and everybody wins.

And the soundtrack is sung by chipmunks.

And the winners and loser both get hugs after games...sparkly hugs!

And then the cute little furry animals start getting it on "cos-play" style - uh, uh, uh...

Akaoni is on a fantasy high right now. He won the superbowl in our highly-competitive fantasy football league. Congrats go to him.

Congrats to Akaoni!!!

Thank you...thank you!

All I have to say is that I'm like Butter...'cuz I'm on a ROLL!!!

Anonymous said...

Slappin down that roll - take that South Carolina.

And to CEO, nice work with Maryland.

Go Oregon State!

I noticed that Koani leads the league in pts from top 10 wins - 8 so far! Maybe now he'll stop whining about league improvements such as this.

The Tenn V Mem game this year just doesn't have the excitement as it has the last two years. Down with Mem anyway!

May Iowa go winless this year in the Big Ten!

Its just 13 hours shy of January 2010 and we still don't have any graphs. Comon Babs. Its time.

Thank you Akaoni, you confirmed last night for me what I knew two days after our draft when Arkansas suspended 4 players, including 3 returning starters indefinitely, THEY ARE GETTING SENT PACKING, I can't afford to give ya'll free SEC points by beating up on a team that scored 13 pts in the second half, they SUCK.

Gotta like Cincy holding home court, they tried to blow it, just like they did against Gonzaga and Xavier, giving up a 10 pt lead with 5 min's to go down to a tie with 9 seconds. I am so happy we didn't see OT, as I saw the second coming of Gonazaga.

Let's see if Oklahoma has learned anything tonight with their matchup at Gonzaga, I'm thinking an 18 pt loss, but maybe they'll get lucky and catch the Zags on an off night

Happy new year to all,

-THE CEO

Jut,

I feel slighted, you all failed to notice that yes, Bab's first round pick of California sucked, but Michigan State to date has only earned 12 pts, I have to think that their tought preseason schedule (At UNC, at Texas) will prep them well for a ton of pts come big ten time. Give me 25 pts for them like most of the rest of you have out of your #1 teams and I'm right in the race, so I like where I'm at. Northern Iowa at 17 pts has exceeded my expectations with wins against the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12, only Depaul has beaten them, and Clemson keeps delivering (although that Illinois loss still smarts, if they can finish 4th or higher in the ACC I think I'm in contention. I do like playing from the Underdog position though.
