Best and Worst of 09/10 - Part 1 of 3

Part 1 of a 3 part look at this past season's draft, who was brilliant and who was an idiot.

Expandadraft:

~ Best: Temple by SGII. Pick 81 (first in expansion) bringing in 33 pts. Not too much thinking involved in this pick.
~ runner-up: Murray St by Jaybird. And. UTEP by Notaturtle - both bringing in 31 points.
~ Note: Gunz's Rhode Island is still alive, and could bring in a solind number of points from the NIT.

~ Worst: Virginia by Gunz. Pick 93 bringing in only 4 pts.
~ runner-up: Charlotte by CEO - dropped a shitty team to pick up an even worse one worth only 3 pts.

Round 8:

~ Best: Baylor by Akaoni, bringing in a huge 66 points from pick 66. This almost doubles the closest competitor from this round. This was one of the top 5 picks of the year.
~ runner-up: Northwestern by Jaybird and Houston by Boaris. The last picks in the regular draft, both teams brought in 36 points.

~ Worst: Radford by Jutdog. Despite preseason hype to win the league again, Radford only generated 17 wins all season, and produced no other bonuses. Pick 73
~ runner-up: Penn State by Notaturtle. Only 17 points. This team could not win a game. Pick 74.

Round 7:

~ Best: St Marys by Boaris, bringing in 56 points from the 61st pick. This team's points were significantly boosted by a strong and surprising run into the sweet 16.
~ runner-up: Cornell by Jutdog, bringing in 50 pts from the 69th pick. This is the third year that Jutdog snagged Cornell, and is likely the last, as this strong run into the sweet 16 was led by 6 seniors.

~ Worst: Niagara by Phunmunki, bringing in only 22 points from the 65th overall pick.
~ runner-up: Long Beach State by Notaturtle, with only 21 points scored by the 68th overall pick.

Lets go, Rhode Island! BIG game Tuesday!

Only two players are in contention to win it all now: Jutdog and Gunz.

Jut's got the lead, and can take matters into his own hands with a West Virginia win over Duke next Saturday, but the game to watch is Tuesday as Gunz' Rhode Island competes in the NIT final four.

If Rhode Island loses, Jutdog has secured the 2010 Babbleball Championship.

If Rhode Island wins just a single NIT game for 7 points, then Gunz could win the Championship with Duke winning the National Title Game on April 5.

NIT Tuesday games are worth 4 + 3
NIT Thursday games are worth 7 + 3
NCAA Saturday games are worth 16 + 3
NCAA Championship is worth 20 + 3

Gunz is 47 points out of first place.

Babblemur is also 47 points out of first place but can only earn 42 if Butler wins the National Championship.

Based upon computer ratings:

Rhode Island comes in as a 1 point underdog to UNC. Should they win and face Dayton, they'd be about a 3 pt underdog. However, in their only head to head, Rhode Island won by 1 pt.

Duke, however, is a 5 pt favorite over West Virginia.

Butler is actually a 2 pt favorite over Mich St.

It seems that 1 pt loss by Tenn to Mich St could be a very large 1 pt.

I think Jut deserves an award for excellence in tagging.

Jaybird got defensive when I told him I didn't think he wanted in next year - he said us pussies are just trying to get rid of a hall of fame member, and that it is bullshit. He said he's in next year and is no longer going to hold back as he kicks the shit out of all of us - especially Ron.

On a side note, I think we have our 12 - mamma Mitchell wants in (which is good for our gender imbalance) and Musash might want to get back this upcoming year (which is good for all of us because his picks always suck).

That would be 12, assuming everyone else wants in again. And we have HippieD who felt the void of not playing this year and was asking about space.

Actually, I have a friend who might be a bit more active who has made noises about wanting in. He's the guy who put out the Moose, blossom, etc brackets in Ron's Babblebracket group. Let me know if I can extend an official invite!

Thanks,

Is that Paper? It would be good to get him in.

I'll check with Phun to see if she still wants in.

Lets start the draft next week for next year, yes? Kidding of course. I was disappointed with my picks for most of the season and I'm frankly quite shocked I finished as well as I did. I'm looking forward to doing even better next year.

Funny that Babs was complaining about his late first round pick spot (last), since this provided him the first pick in round two. Babs snagged Butler, who currently has more points than Kansas and all but 3 first round picks (West V, Kentucky, and Duke).

In the beginning, draft spot seems to matter so much. At least this year, it didn't. The game changers this year are 4th round Kansas State, 5th round Syracuse, 4th round Northern Iowa, 7th round St Marys, 9th round Murray St, 8th round Baylor, and 2nd round Butler.

Oh, and while this is pushing the limits, we technically could have 13. Even numbers aren't necessary.

Push the limits baby, push the limits, I found an Ohio State grad

by the way, the secret of how to win this league, draft as your analysis tells you, ignore feedback from HOF players
