Babs Grabs Wins, Some Guy Flies High

Week Nine was a week of big upsets, and although the top four on the leader board didn't change, there was action in the bottom six.

Babblemur hit the big points this week, scoring 22 points off a 12-3 turnout. This was helped by a big Notre Dame upset over #8 West Virginia, along with Butler, Maryland and Vanderbilt having solid conference weeks. Babs moved from last to 8th place.

Some Guy in Illinois finished second in points with 20, doing it the old fashioned way going 4-2 over other players and 12-4 over all. Notable: Arizona St went 2-0 in the Pac 10, Louisville went 2-0 in the Big East, and Missouri knocked off a hot K-State team in the Big 12.

Teams that took a beatin'

Jutdog and NotaTurtle's squads took a beatin' this week, both went 7-7, worst records for the week. The difference though is that Jutdog took a league low 13 points from his thrashing, but Turtle nabbed 19 off Georgia Tech's upset over #5 Duke and four other wins over other players. Jutdog's Tennessee Gunslingers upset #1 Kansas on Sunday, but was 2-5 against other players for the week.

Props to the Giant Killers

Props to Tennesse (Jut) for knocking off #1 Kansas;
Props to Wisconsin (Gunz) for knocking off #4 Purdue;
Props to Georgia Tech (Turtle) for knocking off #5 Duke;
Props to Notre Dame (Babs) for knocking off #8 West Virginia;

Week Ten Preview:

Look forward to Saturday Jan 16, on which 70 of the 80 teams will be in play.

WAC battle brewing Wed: Nevada (Jaybird) vs. Utah St (Jutdog); Mountain West battle on Wed: UNLV (Gunz) vs. San Diego St (CEO);

Saturday has too many great games to mention them all, what a day! I will note the Pac10 contest California (Babs) vs. Washington (Akaoni) for best of the worst; Georgia Tech (Turtle) gets another shot to prove they are legit against North Carolina (Some Guy); Syracuse (Akaoni) vs. West Virginia (Jutdog) could be a big Top 10 showdown in the Big East; and finally Dayton (Jaybird) vs. Xavier (Phun) could be a conference breaker in the A-10 (look out for Rhode Island, bitches...)

Standings at the end of Week Nine:

# 1. AKaoni - 166 (98-21)
# 2. Jaybird - 144 (93-26)
# 3. Gunz - 143 (95-31)
# 4. Boaris - 140 (94-29)

I found last year's post following Week Nine.

I found this quote in the post: "Less than 50 points separate Notaturtle (107) from Babblemur (153) and there is still lots of time for things to shake up."

At that point the rankings were:

Babblemur 153
Boaris 152
Akaoni 145
Gunz 137
Jutdog 130
ProgressMedia 126
The CEO 123
Musashisan 119
HippieD 118
Jaybird 118
Phunmunki 114
Notaturtle 107

(Note that Jaybird, in 9th place at this time 35 points back, went on to win the contest. Note also that HippieD, who was tied with Jaybird at that time, went on to finish last.)

I guess anything can happen (if you have the best team hands down like North Carolina last year...)

Obviously I've silenced the competition. From now on I win, you lose.

Alright then, bad basketball jokes:

Bobby Knight, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded IU flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Bobby," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here."

Bobby felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a three-story mansion with a black and gold sidewalk, 50-foot tall flagpole with an enormous Purdue flag and, in every window, a Boilermaker logo.

Bobby looked at God and said "God, I'm not trying to be ungrateful, but I have a question. I was a good coach, I won 3 NCAA titles, 600+ games and I even went to the hall of fame. So why does Gene Keady get a better house than me?"

God chuckled, and said "Bobby, that's not Gene Keady's house, it's mine!"

Ohio State pops Purdue - 5 points for Boaris
but Kentucky (Jay) over Florida (Boaris) keeps Jaybird a point ahead. Akaoni still keeps a safe distance though with 3 points for Illinois over Penn St.

Northern Iowa (CEO) - 15-1 record. Nicely chosen.

Wow, what happened to Purdue, I step out of the country to keep the economy running and there is a major shakeup in college hoops. Regretting not taking Syracuse right now, nice work Cinci, failing to get the ball inbounds twice in the last 10 seconds, with a two point lead, and then losing, just awesome.

Purdue lost to a very good Wisconsin team on the road. Not surprising. Then Evan Turner happened. He was without a doubt the best player on the court that night.

1. No player teams have any games on Friday! Woo hoo! Day off!

2. Saturday is going to be a huge day. Akaoni could net up to 26 points by winning all 8 games! Some Guy in Illinois could take 20 points! Everyone has a lot of games and at least a dozen points on the line.

3. It figures I would start creeping up the leader board right before the expanda-draft. I could be in 5th place by Sunday at this rate.

I feel like being in China, Japan, and India should give me some type of advantage, I mean it's already 12:30 PM here on Saturday, shouldn't I know the results of Saturday's games :o). It's actually agonizing, as the key games are played while I am sleeping, and I'm missing some great matchups. I need a big Saturday, my goal is to catch Jut this week,
