Rivalries Heat Up - Do or Die Time

Week Nine saw a lot of parity, but Gunz and Jutdog stepped it up with some big wins.

For the week:
Gunz: +21
Jutdog: +20
Jaybird: +18
Akaoni & The CEO: +17
Babs, Boaris & Hippie: +16
Turtle & Phunmunki: +15
ProgressMedia: +12
Musashisan: +9

Duke is the Team of the Week, beating Virginia Tech (Boaris), Davidson (Progress) & Florida State (Musa) for nine points. Honorable mentions to Wake Forest (Jut) for knocking off North Carolina, Arkansas (Gunz) for knocking off Texas (Progress), and Notre Dame (Gunz) for knocking off Georgetown (Musa).

Week 10 Showdowns:
Oklahoma (Boaris) & Texas (Progress) in the Big 12 on Monday night!
Syracuse (Babs) & Georgetown (Musa) in the BigEast Wednesday - look out!
Georgetown (Musa) vs. Duke (CEO) on Saturday - Boom!
Wake (Jut) vs. Clemson (Musa) in the ACC Saturday - Splash!
UCLA (Turtle) vs. Arizona St. (Babs) for the Pac 10 - POW!
Boston U (CEO) and Vermont (Phun) face off in the whatever league - Swish!

Geeky Game Stats and Other Babble
Less than 50 points separate Notaturtle (107) from Babblemur (153) and there is still lots of time for things to shake up. In fact I went ahead and counted how many games each player has against other player's teams:

Musashisan: 73 games
Boaris: 73 games
Akaoni: 66 games
Babblemur: 64 games
Gunz: 61 games
NotaTurtle: 58 games
HippieD: 52 games
Jaybird: 48 games
Jutdog: 44 games
ProgressMedia: 44 games
The CEO: 42 games
Phunmunki: 31 games

This doesn't include post-season, but there are still a lot of points to be earned. But how will each player do? Lets take a look at how they have done so far against other player's teams:

Babblemur: 24-13
Boaris: 24-16
ProgressMedia: 20-15
Akaoni: 20-18
Jutdog: 22-20
HippieD: 15-14
Gunz: 17-17
The CEO: 14-15
Jaybird: 14-18
NotaTurtle: 13-20
Phunmunki: 9-19

Some fun rivalries:
  • Akaoni is 5-0 against brother NotaTurtle
  • Babblemur is 4-0 against Akaoni
  • NotaTurtle and The CEO are the only players that have never played each other. That will change when Miami faces Duke and Mississippi takes on LSU.
  • Jutdog is now 3-1 against brother Jaybird, but 1-2 against brother CEO. Jaybird beat CEO in their only confrontation.
  • Jutdog has played more games against other players than anyone else.
  • NotaTurtle is 4-0 against Musashisan.
  • Boaris & Babblemur have 5 more games against each other. Boaris has won 2 of 5 so far.
  • Musashisan vs. the Top Dogs: Boaris plays Musa's teams 11 more times, Babblemur plays Musa's teams 10 more times, Akaoni plays Musa's teams 9 more times. Since a lot of these games are against Iowa, Oregon, Washington State, Florida State and St. Louis, I think it is safe to say that Boaris, Babblemur and Akaoni are going to be tough to knock off the top of the board.
  • Phunmunki is story book non-confrontational. She has only one team in a Major Conference, Wisconsin, everyone else is mid-major or below. 3 of her teams are alone in their conferences (Portland State, Belmont, Nevada), and Vermont is alone with Boston U. Gonzaga has two other foes, and BYU has 3. Xavier, favorite to win the Atlantic 10, strangely will get to beat on six other players in an unusually large field of competition in the A-10: Richmond (Hippie), Temple (Jut), St. Joes (Boaris), Dayton (Akaoni), St. Louis (Musa) and Charlotte (Babs).
  • Jaybird and The CEO face off 8 more times: North Carolina vs. Duke in the ACC; Villanova vs. Marquette in the Big East; LSU vs. Alabama in the SEC; VCU vs. Northeastern in the Colonial. Good rivalry here.
  • Speaking of Colonial, George Mason (HippieD) is 5-0, Northeastern and VCU 4-1, Old Dominion (Gunz) is 2-3. This is going to be a competitive league...
  • In the Horizon, Butler (Boaris) is off to a 5-0 start, with competition from Green Bay (Jut) 4-1, Cleveland St. (Turtle) 4-2, and Wright St. (Akaoni) 3-3.
  • In the Missouri Valley, Illinois St. (Progress) has finally crapped out losing 2 straight games. Drake (Akaoni) now leads at 4-1, Creighton (Babs) 3-2, Southern Ill (Gunz) 2-3.

I have lost at least one vs the Turtle. I believe that UTEP beat New Mexico last week. That said, in general I have been kicking his ass thus far.

Louisville V NotreDame has got to make this list of Week 10 showdowns.

Nice post. You don't have time on your hands to run for school board, do you.....

Somehow, Akaoni has played 22 more games than I have. Do I get to make those up?

Louisville by 7; Texas by 3

What I lack in quality I make up in quantity.

Jut,

For someone who actually prepared for the draft you should have paid more attention to schedules.

I'm sure you can make up those games in the post season if your teams don't suck too much.

AP Top 10 is out:
1. Pittsburgh (Boaris)
2. Wake Forest (Jutdog)
3. Duke (The CEO)
4. UCONN (HippieD)
5. North Carolina (Jaybird)
6. Oklahoma (Boaris)
7. Michigan St. (Babblemur)
8. Syracuse (Babblemur)
9. UCLA (Notaturtle)
10. Clemson (Musashisan)

I'm a little nervous - if Wake beats Clemson on Saturday and Louisville knocks off Pittsburgh that will be over 10 points in one day for Jut.

Point potentials for this week (including Monday, with a negative number of points if they lost.)

Boaris: 35
Babblemur: 31
Akaoni: 33
Gunz: 46 -3 = 43 left
Jutdog: 30
ProgressMedia: 31 -5 = 26 left
The CEO: 22
Jaybird: 26 -5 = 21 left
Musashisan: 32
HippieD: 23
Phunmunki: 20
Notaturtle: 36

Turtle ought to be able to pass Phunmunki if he just wins 20 points plus nine for the difference.

And Gunz has the potential to pound his way to the top with this week's schedule!

The travesty of the week is G-Town stinking it up and falling out of the top 10 right before they play Duke....some might call it a conspiracy.....

Ron, for Next weeks "analytics" I would like to see projected conference winners if season ended today (IE projecting who would pick up what points). It's early into conference season but some teams are pulling away.

Jut by luck of the draw gets to bring Clemson back to reality, by the time Duke plays them, they won't be in the top 10 anymore

Lastly will UNC play some defense, maybe a little, can you maybe deny the ball to a key player, maybe foul someone other than the main offensive threat, just asking, because I don't know how many more games like the final four showing last year I can take. I watched the whole game Sunday night, and while the margin was never more than 8, you could just feel that Wake was in control of the game, or moreso Teague was in control of the game.

Yup - and whoever gets to play the overrated #10 Clemson (i.e. Jutdog's Wake) gets a free 5 points.

CEO, I failed to congratulate you on the awarding of Ricky Henderson to the HOF.

Gtown V Syracuse.. big big game. Wow, lots of big matchups tonight

Texas A&M over Baylor! Turtle just can't beat the Oni!

fuckin Minnesota.

Tonight was pretty much uneventfull, with no real upsets or crazy things happening. Maybe Nevada over Boise St. I'd like to see USC recover and smack down Babs for his worst week of play to date.

Babs, I have a better idea for a future post for you than the one you keep floating around - post the teams that need to be dropped, such as Charlotte. Maybe trade for Duquesne!

Well Middle Tennessee State's loss tonight to Western Kentucky was pretty flippin eventful. The Blue Raiders have two main challengers in the Sun Belt - Western Kentucky and Ark-Little Rock. Mid Tenn St. was a game up on both at 5-0 to their 4-1 in conference play but Western Kentucky's win tonight puts both at 5-1, as well as little rock, who also won.

Who knew the Sun Belt could be so exciting!!!

Maybe with the upcoming expandadraft Western Kentucky or Little Rock might not be a hot pick... win the Sun Belt for 4 points, win the Sun Belt Tourney for 4 more...

Green Bay taught Cleveland State a lesson.

Milwaukee is looking like a good potential pick in the expansion draft.

Ron said...

Jutdog in fourth place!!!

I guess he doesn't need that expansion draft so bad after all.

Turtle has a really big day on Saturday - he could pull out of the basement or stay there for good.

Akaoni, first team to break the 100 win mark!

I'm positive it will be all down hill from here...

Dude Akaoni - you are about to pass the Big Babs, your fake negativism isn't fooling anyone.

Yes,

At Western Kentucky the two pt loss that Middle Tenn State took did open the door and make it competitive. It was the difference between a two game lead in their side of the conference. They'll get a shot at them again at home, so not too worried about that, but they will need to win their only mathcup against Ar Little Rock.

Boston U with their loss to Vermont really looking like a team that should be jettisoned. Very dissapointing but predictable that they would get blown out.

Sounding the watchout alert for MT St Mary's who seems to be working through their "inner struggles" and are quickly moving up the conference standings.

ACC and Big East will be wars to the finish, no clear winners yet, just everyone holding home court in the big games. The first teams to execute some big road wins (I'll give Louisville a nice one in their win over Villanova).

Game on.........THE CEO

??? 7 out of 8 wins bitches, including knocking off 2 of the top ten teams in the nation. Seems like Akaoni is now the next step on my ladder to domination.
