May Week Eleven Be The One In Which Akaoni Loses More Than He Wins

Week Ten Recap:

Team bringing in the most points:
  • Ohio State (Boaris) who joined others in beating up Purdue (NotaTurtle) for five points, and came in Saturday to take out Wisconsin (Gunz) for a total of 8.

Teams bringing in the least points (Zero):
  • Notre Dame (Babblemur) lost their only game last week to Cincinnati (The CEO)
  • Seton Hall (Boaris) lost their only game last week to Georgetown (Jaybird)
  • UCLA (Gunz) lost their only game last week to USC
  • Oklahoma St (Gunz) lost both their games against Oklahoma (The CEO) who appears to now have their shit together, and Baylor (Akaoni)
  • Minnesota (Jutdog) tanked this week losing two to Michigan St (The CEO) and Indiana
  • Boston College (Jutdog) fell to both Duke (Gunz) and Maryland (Babblemur)
  • Purdue (NotaTurtle) got a dose of Big Ten reality losing to Ohio St (Boaris) and Northwestern (Jaybird)
  • UCONN (NotaTurtle) took damage from Pitt (Akaoni) and Michigan (Phunmunki)
  • Penn State (NotaTurtle) proved to be a poor pick, losing to Illinois (Akaoni) and Iowa (and is now tied with Jacksonville with 8 points for the year)
  • Texas A&M (Phunmunki) lost two tough games against Kansas St (Jutdog) and Texas (Akaoni)
  • Niagara (Phunmunki) has a rocky road in the MAAC, losing to St. Peters and Iona.
  • Alabama (Phunmunki) was starting to look like a good pick, but fell this week to Vanderbilt (Babblemur) and Arkansas (The CEO)
  • North Carolina (Some Guy in Illinois) lost two this week, to Clemson (The CEO) and Georgia Tech (NotaTurtle)
  • Louisville (Some Guy in Illinois) was starting to look like bad asses, but just not as good as Villanova (Phunmunki) and Pitt (Akaoni)
  • Wright St (Some Guy in Illinois) have written themselves out of contention for the Horizon League, losing to Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Big Winners:
  • Akaoni extended his lead to 30 points after nailing 28 this week, going 12-4. Pittsburgh has joined Texas and Syracuse in the AP Top 10 after big wins over UCONN (Turtle) and Louisville (SGII).
  • The CEO may have put up his strongest performance to date, going 13-3 for 27 points, vaulting from 9th place to 5th place. Oklahoma is finally playing like anticipated, Arkansas actually won a game, and Northern Iowa continues its almost undefeated season.
Big Losers:
  • Some Guy in Illinois couldn't keep it together this week, going 8-8 for a mere 10 points. His top 2 teams couldn't pull off a single win, but on the bright side Arizona St and Tulsa are starting to looking like conference contenders...
  • NotaTurtle's Purdue led his week of hell by dropping two (and dropping out of the Top 10), but the rest followed suit and his teams finished 7-9 for 11 points. Everyone took a hit except Memphis and Gonzaga, who could emerge as life savers for this squad.
Standings after Week 10:
  • 1. AKaoni - 194 (110-25)
  • 2. Jaybird - 164 (103-32)
  • 3. Gunz - 162 (104-37)
  • 4. Boaris - 160 (106-32)
  • 5. The CEO - 147 (99-40)
  • 6. Jutdog - 142 (95-37)
  • 7. NotaTurtle - 141 (87-48)
  • 8. Babblemur - 139 (93-42)
  • 9. Phunmunki - 134 (89-46)
  • 10. Some Guy in Illinois - 132 (98-45)

WOW! K-State just stuck it to the Man! Don't think about it like Jut getting five points, think of it like Akaoni NOT getting five points!

akaoni said...

Texas let a very winnable game get away from them there, but K-State looks like a very good squad, Jut got a steal there. Congrats to Jut on the win and the points. I'll just have go accept the fact that you really can't win them all.

What, what. You want to be #1 in the AP - Jut will knock you down. Down with Kansas. Down with Texas. Down with all of you.

Here is why Akaoni is bringing home the points - look at his schedule. Most of his games are against other players. This week 12 of his 16 games are against other players, two of them against Top 10 teams. If he only wins half his games he still brings in more points than post people.

This is due to smart draft strategy - he went for BCS conferences only, one from each and 2 each in the Big 12 and Big East, which has the most teams and some pretty level competition.

Plus - throw in the "luck" factor. His eighth pick, Baylor, is 13-2 with 5 wins over other players. His 7th pick, Virginia Tech, should be a joke but they are 14-3 with 2 wins over other players.
#6 Pitt, 15-2
#5 Syracuse, 18-1

Its funny that his #2-4 teams are the ones "struggling" if you can call it that:
#4 South Carolina 11-6
#3 Illinois 12-6
#2 Washington 12-5

Also throw in the fact that he has knocked off 5 Top 10 teams so far this year, (the next closest is Turtle with 3).

Never mind, won't let me post the fucking link, for some reason. Cut and paste function won't work, either. Gist of the story: Some guy got busted for "rockin out" to John Denver in Fond du Lac. Thought one of you Wisonsin hippies must know him.

Why the CEO won't win this year:

Can't win the close games, although I had to follow it via the internet, Clemson blew their game at Georgia Tech, and how about this, if I was in Vegas, the bet of the year was Wichita State. Let me see, coming off a 1 pt loss to Creighton, knowing if they lose, the conference race is over, and the kiss of death, Northern Iowa just got ranked, all adds up to a flat outing, which what a surprise, Northern Iowa laid.

Then there is Oklahoma, who can't even beat a depleted Texas A&M team who let me tell you, is not good, not good at all.

This kind of inconsistancy kills. I look back at two teams I was going to draft at critical spots and say, oh, what could have been, I was very high on Syracuse, and very high on Georgia Tech. Clemson and Tech are a wash so far, but Syracuse vs Cincinnati, now that is a big difference.

8-0 on Sat to a 1-3 on Tuesday, losing two must win head to head matchup,

My teams suck, highest bidder can have any of them but Michigan St

Well on the bright side, Purdue held off a very strong surge by Akaoni's Illinois last night to keep the Ak from expanding his lead.

Akaoni has three tough games Wednesday - Baylor v. Kansas, Pitt v. Georgetown, and Gamecocks v. Ole Miss.

Notable: I only have two games against other players this week (and I lost the first) - 13 are one pointers. I suppose I have good odds of winning all my one pointers, but 16 points for the week isn't going to do me much good (unless Akaoni is held to 15 or less...)

I don't need to describe why Babblemur will lose - it is evident. The last bracketology I saw gave me three teams in the Big Dance (Cal, Butler, and Vandy I think). I need all 8 in plus the two expanda teams to even have a shot at this.

akaoni said...

I have the feeling that I'm going to lose more than I win this week, so enjoy it while you can.

Baylor, and South Carolina should certianly lose, and Pitt has been overachieving thus far and could easily fall to Georgetown.

Tony Bennett Representing at Virginia yo!! And how about NC State, knocking off Duke tonight, to keep the ACC close and actually give Virginia a two game lead in the ACC race.

Although I must say, Baylor looked quite good last night, I think they could be a very good team.

My curse is working. It took out Boaris last year.

I just need to find a good spell to make Richmond and Portland win the rest of their games.

I'd like to jaw you Akaoni, but, as my team has failed to execute this week, I have nothing to say except:

Wow, with UTEP's win over Memphis last night, Conf USA has 3 teams at 4-0 and two at 3-1. Should be an interesting race to the finish there.

Illinois Boy is out to an early lead in the PAC 10, with Carolina sucking he's gotta hope they win the Pac-10.

Big game for Arkansas tonight, I'm hoping they are finally coming together, 3 guys had double doubles on Sat, looking to carry that momentum into tonight and maybe I won't have to fire them next week,

Lots of the Conf USA teams are still left, including UAB and Marshall

I'm working on a "expanda draft" watch post, but I keep getting distracted by this campaign for city council. Maybe late tonight after the forum.

Well I think we need a comprehensive storm water management plan, and I'm looking pretty hard at North Carolina State after the Duke win.

akaoni said...

My home has a storm water management plan. It's me in the basement with a squeege!

Zing! Pow!

Ron said...

The curse continues - Akaoni's Washington falls to UCLA! That's a five game losing streak for the red devil.

Boaris really poured it on last night - 4-0 and 8 points to leap back into second place, now just 22 points behind the leader

Harvard at 12-3, wins over William & Mary, Boston College, and Boston U, with the potential to go undefeated in conference play. Babs - looks ripe for your second round pick

akaoni said...

At this rate I may not win another game...ever!

UCONN over Texas - another Akaoni team falls!
