Second?

Ron said...

Four picks so far, tops in four different conferences. What will #5 and #6 do???

Ron said...

And Villanova's gone! Big East! Gunz will take...

akaoni said...

Gunz????

Hellooooo??!?

*Antsy*

Ron said...

He picked DUKE! Someone had to do it I guess, better him than me.

Justin Mitchell said...

ahh, the long wait begins.

Ron said...

Well after the first round I can say that expectations for Babblemur this year are very low. With this NCAA field, a top 9 pick was pretty essential to snag a potential Final Four team. California is going to be good, but not Final Four material. Butler is going to be perhaps better than Cal, but playing in the Horizon will keep their points limited.

I'm declaring myself the underdog this year.

Justin Mitchell said...

What could happen:

- UNC proves to be too inexperienced, joining Kentucy for big let downs this year

- The Big Ten beats up on each other so badly, that most level out with around a .500 conference record

- Teams just outrun Duke's 6 man rotation

- Texas again enters with high expectations but doesn't produce much above last year without a proven 2-guard

- Nova's preseason doesn't prepare the rookies for conference battles, and the lack of a dominant interior causes even more troubles.

That leaves a final four of:

1. Kansas
2. West Virginia
3. winner of California/Butler Elite 8 game
4. Tennessee

Anonymous said...

Wow,

I'm holding you to that Final four, will post mine later tonight or tomorrow, I think we are in agreement on Kansas, the rest hmmmm, not so much.......

The CEO

Justin Mitchell said...

kick Illinois while you're at it. Call your other brother too.

akaoni said...

Teams selected have stayed pretty close to my (babs')list so far, but I think that the by the 3rd round we'll start to see some real divergence.

Anonymous said...

I'm seeing what I would call a few "stretch" selections, but agree, most picks have held to within one to two spots of where I would have expected them to go, with two picks deviating by about 8-10 spots. Will be interesting, I think with 12 teams last year, it drove more divergance starting with round 3, we'll see how it plays out this year

I will take Clemson, sorry for the delay,

-The CEO

akaoni said...

Nice pick.

Clemson.

Babblemur said...

Clemson blows.

Anonymous said...

Hey Bab's, did you really think they'd get back to you? I'm just sad Dayton didn't fall into my lap, it was a tough pass to let them go, and they almost slid back into my lap, almost. Okay boys, and girl, time to separate those who did their homework...

-The CEO

Babblemur said...

Well my list is getting picked off team by team... other than UCLA that is.

Babblemur said...

CEO - no, I really think Clemson blows. Lousy pick.

Anonymous said...

Note, and this can be verified, Bab's at about the same time last year called Nova a lousy pick in the third round, I can only hope his predictive ability holds as strongly this year (although I think Clemson has at best upside of Sweet 16)

-The CEO

Babblemur said...

Ha ha ha! Yup! I pretty much talk first, think later, then justify or deny... I did think Nova was a weak pick then, but they really stomped.

But then again, I got Michigan State as a #10 pick last year...

Anonymous said...

This is true, MSU was a steal, I'm hoping they can at least repeat that magic, even without Suton, we'll see. The nice thing for all of us hoops junkies is the big 10 is actually going to be strong this year, unfortunately, Wisconsin will not be......

-The CEO

Justin Mitchell said...

yes, i'll be snagging minnesota with my 29th pick. its a solid year of parity indeed when you can get a major conf team that was 22-6 in games against non-state of michigan teams, that returns 5 starters, 9 of top 10 scorers, and has two top 35 recruits, as well as a JC star, all the way down at pick #29, AND they are the... 6TH team selected in that conference!!!!

Justin Mitchell said...

someone knock on the shell of turtle - seems too much late night drinking last night is delaying his mind. Anyone just want to give him U of Iowa?

Ron said...

Well I think I know my two picks, so text me when I'm up.

let's see if this works better.

Lots of good teams left to be taken in the next round or two:

Notre Dame, Pitt, Marquette

Mississippi, Florida

Wisconsin, Northwestern

Oklahoma St, Texas A&M, Baylor

Anonymous said...

Florida State, Wake Forest

Oregon, Arizona, Oregon State

UW Milwaukee, UW Green Bay,,,

Prarie View A&M, Depaul.....

CEO Selects Northern Iowa

Ron said...

Ha Ha! Jutdog actually thought BYU would last until he picked again. Loser,

Ron said...

Now that a Wisconsin boy has picked Wisconsin, will an Iowa boy dare to pick Iowa? At least Iowa State?

Last year Iowa pulled in a whopping 19 points from their 15-17 record, and they are supposed to be just a little bit worse this year.

The only teams that were "in the competition" the whole season worse than Iowa was Murray State (17 pts), Southern Illinois (18 pts), and Middle Tennessee State (16 pts).

akaoni said...

I bet that Turtle picks Iowa in his next 3 picks.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure you are not a turtle, as you pick as slow as a turtle!!

Babblemur said...

Lets put some money on it. I'm betting Turtle takes the Oregon State Beavers.

Anonymous said...

You don't think Depaul....

Anonymous said...

And its Arizona!

Babblemur said...

Jacksonville Dolphins are a GREAT pick.

They won the A-Sun conference last year (15-3), and return four starters, including star point guard Ben Smith. Plus, these guys are willing to play with the big boys. Their pre-conference schedule includes:
11/16 @ Florida St
11/24 @ California (mine)
11/27 @ South Carolina
12/4 @ Florida

Come on - I DARE you to take East Tennessee St! Belmont! Chickens!

Anonymous said...

Let's re-look at Jacksonville:

Actually they were 15-5 in conference, and an overall record of.. wait.. wait... 18-14. Now 4 returning starters is always great, but consider the conference (Atl Sun) to be one of the worst 6 in college basketball, one in which 1/4 of the teams aren't even eligible for post-season play, and you see that the owners of Florida St, South Carolina, and Florida just picked up and extra 2 pts each.

~ Lord Jut

Babblemur said...

Yah you think maybe I made a deal with Jaybird, Boaris and Akaoni - perhaps.

Jacksonville is capable of beating each one of those teams, so I have the potential to pick up 6, plus the 20 plus points for wins, 6 for winning the conference, 4 for their tourney, 4 more for getting into the NCAA, and I have 40 points along with the ability to say "GO DOLPHINS! EEE! EEE!" All season long.

Top that with your Utah State Ass Slappers or whatever they are called. Go Ass Slappers! Smack! Smack!

Anonymous said...

I am really impressed, maybe depressed, trying to decide, but thought for sure I would get either Oregon State or Old Dominion, ya'll are getting better........

The CEO...

Anonymous said...

CEO - I'll trade you Jacksonville for San Diego State. I meant to take the Aztecs, really I did...

Babs

Anonymous said...

Let's make it a three teamer, I really wanted Oregon State or Ole Miss, see what you can do Babs,

-The CEO

Ron said...

Kansas is likely going to be a TOP 10 team for the first few months at least (if not throughout the season). I just looked at their schedule - these are the teams that will get a crack at 5 points for knocking them off their high horse:

11/17 @ Memphis (NotaTurtle)
12/6 @ UCLA (Gunz)
12/12 La Salle (someone might take them)
12/19 Michigan (Phunmunki)
12/22 California (Babblemur)

I'll hand it to Kansas, they are playing a good schedule.

Anonymous said...

Jut, what's going on with Jaybird!!!!

Anonymous said...

Jaybird was constipated all night, and couldn't move off of the toilet. Just kidding. He worked.

Anonymous said...

oh and babs, despite your great wanting for San Diego State, you must not realize they are not in the WAC but rather in the MWC. Dick.

Anonymous said...

Same dif.

Anonymous said...

CEO will take Oakland, you wanna talk about playing the big boys, they have for a preseason schedule: @Wisconson, @Kansas, @Memphis, @Michigan State, UWGB, @Oregon, @Syracuse, I'm pulling for two upsets (Michigan State not being one of them)!!

-The CEI

Ron said...

At this point in the draft, I think the Top 5 Squads to me are:
1. Phunmunki
2. Jutdog
3. NotaTurtle
4. Akaoni
5. Jaybird

Anonymous said...

I like being the underdog, love it.....

The CEO, admit it you don't like the Oakland pick, let me just say now, I told you so...

-The CEO

Ron said...

I had you sixth...

I don't like your Cincinnati pick. But then I don't like Cincinnati. I LOVE your San Diego State pick - I'm kicking myself for taking Jacksonville instead of the Aztecs.

Anonymous said...

It was Cincinnati or Syracuse at that point, both had strong points and negative points. I felt the risk / reward was higher on Cincinnati with their one and done Frosh, and their guy coming back from injury and most of their roster in place from last year. I love Syracuse's front court, possibly the best in the nation, but their guards are weak, and in the Big East, that could be a killer. I agree, this was the pivotal pick that will either help me join my brothers in the hall of fame, or have me looking back saying Ron and half my brain said Syracuse, time will tell (if Oakland beats Syaracuse, I'll be okay then)

-The CEO

Anonymous said...

- cincy is on the verge of a breakout year. just because teams like cincy, west virginia, and tennessee aren't all proper and pretty doesn't reduce their potential or abilities. Weigh it more as a risk with the potential of a higher payout. Cincy is going to be REAL impressive this year, and since i'm in the hall of fame, it must be true.

Everyone:

Don't forget that following the last pick, we will be running our preseason poll, so everyone shoot me an email with your predicted order of finish (for example: 1st: Jutdog....... 10th: Babblemur)

~ Jut

Anonymous said...

Lord Jut,

Why don't we do that pre-season poll using third-party software with secret voting - ranking players 1-10 with point system. Yes, why not. Lets look for free online thing that does that.

~ Babs

Anonymous said...

even better. Did Turtle take Iowa yet?

Anonymous said...

no, that is why we should change his name to "Slow as a Turtle"

Anonymous said...

Some of us have actual jobs and shit and don't sit around all day drooling over our crayon-and-bbq-sauce-smeared cheet sheets.

Ron said...

Ha ha ha! My baby scribbled all over Baylor's entry in a magazine, that's why I didn't take them!

Anonymous said...

actual job = no freedom to engage in activites deemed important by the individual = owned by employer.

Wow - we're getting close. Now the wait is going to be long, since we usually don't start for another week.

~ Jut

Anonymous said...

Ohio State big man out 4-6 weeks.

Anonymous said...

Worst Picks vote:

Sienna at 21 (should have been around 35)

Zona St at 37 (maybe last 2 rounder)

Florida at 40 (not that bad, but more so around 60)

Zona at 48 (could pay off, but doubtfull, maybe last 2 rounder)

St Marys at 61 (what? oh, the ghost of patty mills is there)

Illinois St at 75 (not really bad, seeing as this was last round, but not likely to contend for a championship, lost tons, and selected over several other decent remaining teams.

Not too many, especially if my super-low opinion of the Pac 10 is wrong.

~ Jut

Anonymous said...

The travesty of this process is that it has got all of us fired up for college hoops, and now we have to wait roughly three weeks for things to get started....

Just a travesty

-The CEO

Ron said...

Illinois State is not a bad pick at all! Especially for the 8th round. I think the MVC is going to be wide open, and I'm betting that some might be scrambling to grab the next Drake when the Expanda-draft comes along.

Kansas has behavior problems
Kentucky's Wall might have eligibility problems
UCLA has injuries galore
Washington has the flu...

Anonymous said...

it sounds like CEO will have ambition to enter in schedules into the spreadsheet

Anonymous said...

We can arrange that... must have google account though.

I am assuming that Jaybird's eighth pick is going to be AWESOME WICKED C@@L since he is spending so much time on it.

Take La Salle for christ's sake, it ain't poker. Better yet, Oregon or Wash St, two good Pac 10 teams that will get 4 points each for beating up on Arizona State.

Ron said...

Draft complete!

Best teams not taken:
La Salle
Washington St
Iowa

Anonymous said...

Agree, it was either La Salle or Arkansas for me, and hard to pass up the 15 head to head matchups Arkansas will have, and 5 of their top 6 scorers and a solid freshman....

Time will tell......

Indiana will beat the hell out of Iowa at least once this year.
