Week Three Turkey Tourneys

Sure, there are other games, but this week is really all about the tournaments.

Nine "in-season" tournaments are worth points this year. Some probably shouldn't be worth anything, some tournaments aren't counted, but whatever.

Status Report:
Coaches versus Cancer (4 pts.)
Duke (The CEO) wins it over Michigan, Southern Illinois (Gunz) and UCLA (Turtle).

Preseason NIT (4 pts.)
Semis Wed 11/26, finals Fri 11/28
#10 Purdue (Akaoni) faces off with Boston College (Gunz); Oklahoma (Boaris) takes on UAB (Jaybird).

Puerto Rico Tip-Off (3 pts)
Xavier (Phunmunki) took down Missouri, Virginia Tech (Boaris) and Memphis (Gunz) to win the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. USC (HippieD) lost in the first round to Seton Hall.

Paradise Jam (3 pts)
UCONN (HippieD) was too much for Wisconsin (Phunmunki) and Miami-FL (Notaturtle). San Diego (Jutdog) fell to Wisconsin.

Maui Invitational (3 pts)
North Carolina (Jaybird) faces Notre Dame (Gunz) in the final. Notre Dame beat Texas (ProgressMedia) who knocked off St. Joseph's (Boaris). North Carolina beat Oregon (Musashisan) who knocked off Alabama (Jaybird).

College Basketball Experience Classic (3 pts)
Syracuse (Babblemur) defeated Kansas (Jaybird) and Florida (Akaoni) to win the CBE. Kansas defeated Washington (Akaoni) in the semi round.

Anaheim / 76 Classic (3 pts) Nov. 27-30
St. Mary's (ProgressMedia) vs. UTEP (Notaturtle)
#19 Wake Forest (Jutdog) vs. Cal Fullerton
#14 Arizona State (Babblemur) vs Charlotte (Babblemur)
Baylor (Notaturtle) vs. Providence

Old Spice Classic (3 pts) Nov. 27-30
#12 Tennessee (Musashisan) vs. Siena (The CEO)
#21 Georgetown (Musashisan) vs. Wichita State
#5 Michigan State (Babblemur) vs. Maryland
#9 Gonzaga (Phunmunki) vs. Oklahoma State (HippieD)

Great Alaska Shootout (3 pts) Nov. 25-29
Portland State (Phunmunki) and San Diego State (Babblemur) are the only players with teams in this increasingly irrelevant tournament. They will have to win games against Hampton, Louisiana Tech, Northern Illinois, Seattle, Western Carolina, and Alaska Anchorage. This tournament is so bad that their website has been off line for the better part of a month, so who plays who and when must be pieced together with espn forensics. Portland State opens against Northern Illinois, San Diego State starts off against Western Carolina.

So, the much maligned Hawkeyes are off to a 5-0 start and averaging about 20 point victories.

Granted, they've played nobodies, but last time I checked there are many teams picked in this league that lost to "nobodies."

Who will you be rooting for on Friday, Babs?

Also, what's up with Loyola(Md.) double-teaming Curry all game (even when he didn't have the ball)? And then losing by 30? And then braging about holding Curry to zero points?

Iowa has been very impressive so far. I will be rooting for West Virginia, but I still have a soft spot for Iowa.

I read about the Curry shut down. That is a big WTF in my book. I understand the argument for double teaming him intensely, but a coach has got to be flexible or, well, you lose by 30 points. The coach stated after the game that no one will remember that they lost by 30, but they will remember that they held Curry scoreless.

Well they could just punch him in the face - everyone will remember that, too.

Trashcan potty-mouth is sad that they don't have any teams playing in any of the Turkey Tourneys.

Jaybird with a nice UNC win over ND worth 8 points (1 win, +2 over another player, +2 top 10 team win, +3 tourney victory).

Nevada slips to Pacific...

Have a good weekend folks.

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MARYLAND. DOWN WITH BABBLINGTURD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I strangely feel the following when watching a game:
1. Cheer for local state
2. Cheer for Big 10
3. Cheer for small school playing powerhouse (Zaga vs Okl St even though Zaga is rated)
4. Cheer against Babblemur team
5. Cheer for my teams.

With conflicts abound, the bottom line is Cheer against Babblemur teams.

Friday observations:

Old Spice: Musa is guaranteed to be in the final, and the bright side of the mich st loss is that I now play okl st instead of gonzaga for 3 pts, an easier win, with a shot at georgetown on sunday.

Anaheim: Turtle has a shot at putting two teams in the final game: Baylor & UTEP, but I predict losses to Wake and ASU, setting up a Jutdog-Babblemur Smackdown.

NIT: Purdue Oklahoma game should be a good one today

IOWA WATCH: Hawkeyes are 5-0, facing my West Virginia mountain mamas tonight

Oh and Jutdog is STILL in last place. Clearly he doesn't stand a chance of winning this competition, and frankly I'll be surprised if he finished anywhere but the bottom 6. In a way I feel sorry for his ass and hopes he wins enough games to at least not be embarrassingly bad. I wonder if his brothers feel sorry for him.

If you weren't already questioning the 3rd round selection of Sienna, todays loss to Witchita might put it over the edge. Of course, not quite as bad as a 1st round pick losing to Maryland.

Last thing, although you can't read well Babs, and you probably can't read this either, but I did proclaim that I will be in last place or very near likely through the end of next week. Its not a surprise, nor expectation that isn't being met. I think realisticly(?) I have lost only two games that I should have won - GB to a D2 team, and SFAustin to some other chumps. Then again, Babs, you do have far more experience in the cellar-dweller slot, and your opinion holds a credibility that no other has.

The real question needs to be: Can HippieD, Boaris, and Musas get a large enough lead to hold them all the way through the conference season, when many of their subpar major conf teams get destroyed and other players such as myself pour on the points.

I had Baylor as the best pick of the draft - based on how late they were picked. I was excited that I might even steal them with my third pick, but Turtleater snagged them one before me.

I had them a top 18 team, and found them to be near identicle to Wake Forest and Arizona St. Both Zona St and Baylor had everyone back from a strong performance last year. Wake had everyone back from a decent team last year, but added a top 3 recruiting class. Overall, I had Wake at 14, Baylor 15, and Zona St 16.

The important point is that this week, Bab's first and second pick lost this week.

Ron said...

I thought the important thing was that I picked up 10 points yesterday, including beating 3 other players, shooting up to 43 points, while you still suck.

... as important as 5th place is near the end of November.

Wow,

I take two days off, and all of you pass me by, I'm almost as bad as Jut now. Siena, prooves that, I'm hoping they can win one game in the Old Spice Classic. I need to knock New Mexico off tonight to right the ship. And I get my 3rd crack at Rhode Island. I'm hoping my whole team plays against them....Damn that Baron kid can play,

Buffalo over Temple (Jut's 4th pick) by 10 = CLASSIC

I heard Temple just changed their mascot from the Owls to the JutSucks

Anonymous said...

That does hurt, albeit not as bad if it were one of my top two teams.... I definitely think Temple was one of my questionable teams, but I think they'll do fine, and take either 1 or 2 in the conf.

What is good to see is UWGB turning it around and winning several straight, including wins over a talented Marshall squad and yesterday's win over a solid UMASS team. Both without one of their starters and top scorers.

I see Sienna lost again. Of course they weren't picked to be a top 20 team.

Curious to see how a lowly conf Cornell does against a terrible Indiana today.

Wow,

Siena has a chance to get a signature win to help their NCAA cause in case they somehow fail to win their conference. Instead, they suffer a loss to Tennessee (Expected), a loss to Wichita State (dissapointing), and a loss to Oklahoma State (could have won). I agree with Ron, those of you in the A-10, watch out for Rhode Island, they can play. Cincinatti with surprising win over UNLV last night...

Oh let me repeat, just for fun:

Ron / Jut,

Not sure who is running the show, but just an FYI, I see the VCU - Vanderbilt game is not showing on the spreadsheet of death. Apparently, they are in the Cancun Classic which I'm trying to figure out, as these are the only two teams who both won yesterday and a are playing another team that won. It is a strange strange thing...

Maybe Western Kentucky is touger than anyone thought. I believe they were picked third in their conference by the media and coaches, maybe it was second.

Ron said...

CEO -

I will check on that, because I stayed up and watched the end of that VCU-New Mexico game last night. The Cancun and Alaska tourneys are hard to follow because the games are so late that they appear on the next day sometimes on ESPN instead of the day they are played (time zones).

Western Kentucky better than thought? Or Louisville over-rated? For the sake of Jut - I'll say he got burned - Louisville is going to be this year's Kentucky.

Ron said...

Speaking of the Great Alaska - Apparently San Diego State won it last night when they beat Hampton - Ha. 3 points.
