TRASH TALK 2008-09

Babblemur BBall Challenge 2008 - 09: This is where the winners bash the losers, and the whiners complain about sucking. Talk shit or don't play.

Here is the new trash talk zone, as the previous one on geocities sucked.

Just to recap what was deleted so far:

"Babs, I hope you get the #1 pick and pick Syracuse. I then hope that with your 20th pick you choose Iowa. You are going down buddy (unfortunately, no one will ever do as poorly as you did last year, ever, in the entire future of the game)."

Oh, and your Iowa boys are hopeless.

I picked schluppy teams last year just to get y'all into it. I'm afraid you are toast now. And not delicious hot buttered toast but "American Table" toast - white bread with 'this ain't butter' on it.

Ballerz-

How bout some draft directions here... Is Ronald McKane Hardy in charge of this shit show?

Jut and I are sharing the blame this year. We'll have an online spreadsheet to track points and games through google docs. The draft order will be determined this week.

If you are one of the 12 people on this page
http://www.geocities.com/babblemurbball/
then you are playing! If not, you'll have to get on a waiting list for next year I guess.

I found a scrap of paper with NotATurtle's strategy - take every team in the Big East plus Iowa.

Also a lot of the rules have changed. You should check those out. The scoring is much different, better I think. If it sucks, blame Jut.

Nice work Wonder Womellanor. Also very fine ghost work.

Looks like Jay's takin UNC. HippieD coming in that challenging #2 spot will be setting the tone for what the rest of us do

I'm feeling pretty good about the layout now. I'll be getting two top 15 teams picking 10th and 15th. Picking 34th and 39th will give me two teams that the rest of you overlooked. Yup, I got this one locked up.

Based on my solar powered robot projections, this will be my 8 teams for the 2008-09 challenge:

#10: Notre Dame, Big East (You would have thought someone would take them sooner, but with the Big East being so strong...)
#15: Memphis, Conference USA (see above comment, but add that being in a "mid-major" conference maybe people backed off of Memphis)
#34: Arizona, PAC 10 (I would have taken West Virginia, but due to the "one team per league in the first 4 rounds" rule, I take a Pac-10 second tier team.)
#39: Virginia Commonwealth, Colonial (I would have taken Alabama except that I am sure that Musashisan will take Alabama in the third round, leaving me with the choice of either VCU or Belmont...)
#58: Middle Tennessee State, Sun Belt (I believe the fifth round will be the "mid and crappy-major" round, so I'm going for Middle Tennessee.)
#63: Dayton, Atlantic 10 (What??? No one has taken Dayton yet??? Atlantic 10 might be down, but it ain't no Missouri Valley.)
#82: New Mexico, Mountain West (Waitaminute, Steve Alford? NOOOOO!)
#87: FINAL PICK: TOSS UP: I either take the North Dakota State Bisons, predicted to come in second place in the Summit League, or stick with the North Texas Mean Green - because the name sticks and why the hell not.

Babs,

You should consider your allegence to UW Green Bay, both for the Green reference, as well as the sentimental value coming from your original 2007 disaster. Plus, 5 returing starters from a .500 teaam and a highly athletic JUCO transfer put this team in the top 96.

I'll take them at 93 if still available.

Anonymous said...

Ron. If that's your team, it looks a lot like mine last year. I believe I had Memphis, VCU, Zona, and maybe even Dayton...unfortunately for you that lineup was stronger last year...

Ron said...

No kidding, pretty close.

However with 12 players versus 6, no one is going to have the same caliber squads as last year. There are only so many top 50 teams to go around, and with 12 players that is about 4 top 50 teams per.

I'd actually be shocked if I pulled off both Notre Dame and Memphis. Both will probably be picked before I get a shot at them, but that will just leave me other choices such as Duke or Oklahoma.

By the way, Jut LOVES Oklahoma. He may even be tempted to take them with his #4 pick because he probably won't be able to get them with his #21 pick. He's telling everyone how shitty Oklahoma is hoping that they won't take them.

My predictions for the first round:
1. North Carolina
2. Louisville
3. UCLA
4. UCONN
5. Gonzaga
6. Marquette
7. Purdue
8. Texas
9. Duke
10. ?????

What would you do? Michigan State? Oklahoma? Notre Dame? Tennessee? Memphis?

honestly, I have no idea. I haven't done a lick of preperation. Fantasy football has been #1 in my viewfinder lately. But I just canceled my WoW account so that will be off the time-suck table so I should be able to devote some serious prep to the college B-ball. We'll see.

...also, we need some new art direction on the websites. The graphics look like they were drawn by a 5 year old...

...or were they?

Microsoft Paint, bitch.

Since Jaybird will be up probably until 4am on Nov 1 working and fufilling the quest to take over league alcoholic status, I'll get his pick right away. I'll also get HippieD's pick Friday night, so NottaTurt can pick right away Sat morning.

Phunmunikie is an easy pick to get (Gonzaga or Mich St), and CEO will be awake nice and early with his new baby, so I think we can be to pick 7 by 10am on Nov 1.

Ronald, Marquette will not be picked prior to NotreDame and maybe not even in the top 15. Same great squad, new coach, still only one player over 6'6 that plays. I would take em at 21 though.

BREAKING NEWS:

3 Louisville Players arrested early this AM.

SUcks to be Jutdog.

Anonymous said...

Once all teams are picked, we'll have our preseason poll, where each player will rank the players.

A first place vote is worth 10, 2nd worth 9, etc.

I'm sure Jutdog will utimately receive your support for #1, you worthless bastards.

Breaking Breaking news: Babblemur Household raided just for sucking so bad. For anyone who missed it, the idiot finished with negative points last year.

Let's see if 4 preseason magazines and elevated levels of Rum can change things. Being that he is a complete idiot, I don't think so.

Lord Jut

Jut,

I found someone who will pay food stamps for your big box of porno magazines that you keep in the garage. You might want to start cutting your name off the covers.

Justin Mitchell said...

Dammit, no trade and stop the secret, They are mint condition and have never been opened. I'm saving them for Babblemur's 45th birthday. Phunmunki told me that a spicy gift is needed over in that household, and I chose the least offensive of her recommendations.

Whoever that food share (not stamp you ignorant bastard - that word went out back in the 2006's) person is, report them for frauding the federal government and abusing your hard-earned tax dollars (note - if this is Progress Media or Jaybird, your tax dollars aren't hard earned you lazy bastards).

Ron said...

Here's what isn't a secret - taking Ohio State in the third round is a big funking joke. The only thing that saves that crappy pick is Musa taking Iowa giving us all 2 points whenever we play him.

Justin Mitchell said...

The bullshit is flying when he says, "look at my last picks and the Green thing, ha ha." His first picks sucked fat balls, including many of the worst teams in challenge history.

Regarding any talk about hall of fame, its nonsense. Everyone had an unfair advantage last year. They were all stupid, and had to go against me.

Unfortunately, little has changed this year, except that at least Babs didn't cheat and give Phunmunki the first pick in every round.

McGrumps said...

Munki seems to have a mid-major fetish. Jaybird seems to have an Alabama Fetish, but I didn't want to know any more. RegressMedia got off to a strong start with Texas, then caught whatever munki has. Sienna? Nine Big East teams in the first five rounds? I took Iowa last year, but with my final pick on a lark.

This thing is shaping up to finish like it did last year, except Jutpuppy won't get so lucky in championship week and the tournament.

Ron said...

At this point it is safe to predict that SlutDog will finish 10th at best. Temple will be lucky to enter league play with a winning record, and will go down hill from there.

San Diego is his only decent pick after Louisville.

Anonymous said...

How does it feel to know that on Nov 10, Duke will be the first team to score barring anyone picking up Georgia Southern, Houston, or Presbyterian. That's right, from Day one, to the end, the CEO will be in charge. He who questions Sienna doesn't belong in the college hoops executive suite!!

Ron said...

The one to win it all: Phunmunki.

She doesn't have a weak link in her entire line up, and has a good chance to send all 8 to the big dance.

We're going to be beat by a girl.

akaoni said...

I think it's time to start a new thread!

Anonymous said...

I'm waiting for you bastards to send in your predictions. I'll post the results, and we can laugh at Babs when Phunmunki is picked for 8th.

Babs, although this is painfull for me to spit out at you, but I do believe you will finish significantly better this year - partially due to the stupidity of your Iowa boys minus Turtleater, who should finish top 4.

The player's team page is done. Send in your predicted order of finish.

My predictions have been sent to Slutpuppy. In making them, I noticed a few things. Mostly that people made some really bad picks. The top five:

1. Boston College at 37 (Gunz). This team shouldn't have been picked at all, much less in the top half of the draft. Will finish with a losing record, but will help boost Miami's score, so there is a bright side.
2. Stanford at 59 (Boaris). Does anyone think this team will be good? I predict a 10th place finish in a weak Pac 10.
3. New Mexico at 56 (Akaoni). Come on bro, after watching what he did at Iowa you think he'll make the Lobos better? New Mexico will finish in the bottom half of a bad conference.
4. Iowa at 42 (Musa). This team is better than y'all think. But still bad.
5. George Mason at 47 (HippieD). Wha? Did you go to George Mason or something?

Honorable mention terrible picks: Arkansas at 60, Butler at 62, Florida State at 66, Richmond at 74, St. Louis at 79, and Mississippi State at 86.

Congrats to Jutdog, Jaybird, Babblemur, CEO, ProgressMedia, and Phunmunki for not making any idiotic picks!

Anonymous said...

Turtle, you have shown astute skill and potential of promotion in identifying players who made solid picks. I doubt many ranked the CEO high, but I like my chances to send all 8 to the NCAA, and with some luck, two to the great 8,

Looking forward to at least leading the league one day in after Duke win's the season's opening game on Monday
